I run a Slaaneshi themed traitor guard army and I'm becoming increasingly temped to run a ten man ratling squad to deal with the increasing number of MCs. For 100pts they seem a steal.
However the main problem is the models, I'm really not a fan.
Does anyone know of some appropriate alternative models, third party or other wise?

Has anyone done any good conversions?

I'm going to mention an idea my friend gave me. In my case, I'm going to run Iron Warriors rather than Slaanesh.

For Ratling Snipers, he suggested to make Gun Servo Skulls. In that case it's more Dark Mechanicus/IW.

I can't think of a good Slaaneshi-specific equivalent right now, but maybe this idea will trigger other ones.

Thanks, I like out of the box suggestions.

While I go for bright Slaaneshi colours, I would probably prefer something more traitor guard-y than completely slaaneshi.

I'd be interested in any similar sized models with sniper rifles.

Needing 'orrible mutant stunted sniper gribblies? Skaven should be the first port of call, surely I've seen some rather nice 40k skaven conversions kicking about, so it should be pretty easy.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

I was thinking Skaven too. They're only slightly taller than Ratlngs (and will still be dwarfed by any human-sized model)

Still skaven is nice idea indeed but for slaanesh..? Really dont have a clue in that..
Maybe you could use wood elf glade guard female models.. They are a bit smaller than CSM
and have the femalish, womanish Slaaneshi thing you search.

Killing is easy. Being politically correct is a pain in the ass...

Yeah, I wondered about Skaven as well, before my good buddy and fellow collaborator suggested Gun Servo Skulls for a good fluffy fit with my IW army.

But as mentioned, I can't easily associate Skaven with Slaanesh. However, OP suggested the emphasis is more on Traitor Guardsmen rather than Slaanesh.

There is an idea I kept in my back pocket for Skaven in 40k. It was Hrud, a xenos race mentioned in the 3rd ed rulebook. Not sure if you guys know the image.

Thus, in the same way the Imperial Guard took Abhumans into their ranks, these Traitor Guard recruited xenos. Maybe just need some green stuff for a hood on the Skaven minis.

One of the inspiring sites I found while working on my traitor guard army is Ten Inch Blog.
The poster has a sizable Traitor Guard force and comes up with some excellent ideas for conversions.

Here is his idea for Chaos Ratlings:
http://teninchtemplate.blogspot.com/2010/12/who-are-you-calling-ratling.html

He used Crypt Ghouls from the Fantasy range.

I attempted to copy the idea but it failed pretty badly. I may revisit it at a later time.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Tom

Thank you for all the great suggestions.
While I like the skaven suggestion I'm not sure it's something I could make work with how the rest of my army looks.

The link to that blog looks great, and I like his results but I'm also not sure that's something I could achieve easily.

I'm not sure what I'll do at the moment, I've come across some great Urban War Veridian Sniper models, but as there are only two sculpts and they cost £10 together getting a 10 man squad would be too expensive and boring looking.

Guard bodies with daemonette, WE Dryad or Kroot heads? Could replace the odd hand not holding the grip of the rifle with a daemonette claw. Depending on your conversion skills, you could also add a tail here and there. Kroot rifles could be an option for armaments.
Throw in a banner or the odd icon/marking and... done!
Maybe bling out the Sergeant a bit more (if ratlings have sergeants.. not sure).

I'd get some Fantasy ghouls and make some kind of techno-virus dudes with mutated sniper rifles.

I'd convert grots or goblins, but paint them in 'flesh' colours (i.e. implying they're abhumans/mutants) instead of green. The only hard part would be finding/converting arms to hold counts-as sniper rifles. Although as abhumans/mutants, there's nothing stopping you giving them human-sized arms.

Dwarves would be another possibility (especially the ones with guns/crossbows), but would need a fair bit of conversion to stop them looking like leftovers from WHFB.

Tor Games 'Relics' minis or Bob Olley's mutant Scrunts would likely give some good options.

Jailbirds Sniper unit from this kickstarter that's currently going:

Possibly led by the One-Shot Blondie mini. The Jailbirds are perfect Slaanesh renegade guard. They're hot, boobalicious, toting big guns and they come to battle with a baby hippo carrying a sack of beer around. You *know* they party with Doomrider.

This is a really good idea, I'm actually already pledged for the $15 level.
The only problem is to get a unit of ten of them (3 boxes of 3 and say the sniper special character) would cost $55 including $20 shipping.
That's about £48 which is a bit steep. Maybe I need to realise that any good alternative is gonna cost some money.

Thanks for all the suggestions, even the ogres.

Why not just use our regular Slaaneshi guard troopers? Just convert the lasguns to sniper rifles.
