Tony Robinson, British comedic actor of the legendary "Blackadder" where he played the befuddled manservant to Rowan Atkinson's cunning and sarcastic Edmund Blackadder has finally put one over on his boss, receving a knighthood during the Queen's Birthday Honors. Atkinson meanwhile received a CBE.
From the Middle Ages through to the First World War, he was the faithful manservant whose cunning plans never elevated him beyond the status of whipping boy.
But today Baldrick finally turns the tables on his tormentor Edmund Blackadder after the actor Tony Robinson was knighted in the Queen’s Birthday Honours, while his “boss” Rowan Atkinson had to settle for a CBE.
Other famous names honoured by the Queen include the broadcaster Clare Balding, the singer Adele Adkins, the comedian Rob Brydon and the Telegraph's former fashion editor, Hilary Alexander.
Robinson, 66, said: “I’m thrilled, flattered and a little gobsmacked to have received this recognition from my country. I’ll use my new title with abandon to highlight the causes I believe in, particularly the importance of culture, the arts and heritage in our society, and the plight of the infirm, elderly and their carers.
“I also pledge that from this day on I’ll slaughter all unruly dragons, and rescue any damsels in distress who request my help.”
So... Blackadder clip thread?
A fate verse zen death!
I beg of you sarge let me lead the charge when the battle lines are drawn
Lemme at least leave a good hoof beat they'll remember loud and long
I think it was a shame he was knighted for services to the Labour party, rather than "for services to entertainment" or for education (I grew up watching Time Team!), But still, good for him!
I can understand his wanting to highlight the problems facing the elderly and infirm considering what his friend, Terry Pratchett, is facing.
I liked his series, "Blood and Honey". It was a pretty good take on the Old Testament.
I wonder if he thought the queen was trying to solve his low ceiling problem.... 8)
We were once so close to heaven, St. Peter came out and gave us medals; declaring us "The nicest of the damned".
“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'”
