Like the title says, folks. Mine would have to be the Siege of Terra. Generic, I know, but everybody and their grandmothers was there. It came down to tooth anb nail, even the kitchen sink was not spared. Its pretty cool and important. What's yours? Xenos vs Humans and so forth.

I was a fan of all of the Badab war fights. Especially the one in which Huron almost beasted the Head Commander of the Crusade in a surprise attack (The new one, not the one that got killed during the negotiations earlier in the war).

Good question!

It's a tie. My first pick is the space battle between the Covenant of Blood and the Red Corsairs forces. Really, though, what I truly loved is the fight between Vandred and the Exalted, so this one probably doesn't count.

My REAL choice, the only one that probably counts, isn't an important battle, but it's great for the iconic feel of the setting.

The Battle for Pasternach, between Unknown Space Marines (who I think might have been Imperial Fists, although it hardly matters) and a small group of what sounded like Tyranids. Awesome stuff. Described in Angels, a short story by Robert Earls that you can find in Let the Galaxy Burn, a short story anthology edited by Marc Gascoigne and Christian Dunn.

It's the 3rd War for Armageddon for me... though 2nd comes close. In both cases, there is history of the Blood Angels - and Captain Tycho in particular - being forged. Not to mention the epic grudge match between Yarrick and Ghazghkull.

My favorite battle comes from Helsreach. Not that fight itself, but when Grimaldus describes that chapter (Wolves something, been awhile) going extinct fighting the Tyranids to the last man. I always enjoyed that bit of the book.

Probably the Battle of Iyanden vs Hive Fleet Kraken.

Seeing such a prosperous (by the standards of an already dying race anyway) nearly brought low by ravening monsters and the depths they sink to for survival is great reading. It is also some of the best Eldar fluff imo.

That and Yriel is a badass.

Also, I absolutely loved the Battle for Prospero in A Thousand Sons. It completely showed Magnus' legion in a whole new light to me.

The battle of Iyanden, and how the Eldar unwittingly saved countless Imperial worlds and many of their own kin, and facing an incredibly desperate battle against a foe even the Eldar know relatively little about.

I know you guys mentioned the Second War of Armageddon, but it's this specific battle.

The one where Commissar Yarrick got his armed looped off, then while the Ork what done it was cheering, he got up and decapitated him. Then took his power klaw in return.

Yarrick, man. Beat the Orks by being more Orky than them.

I've never been overly fond of the Ultramarines, but Calth and the whole grudgmatch thing between Guilliman and Lorgar is turning out to be one of the more interesting parts of the HH series.

I have always had a soft spot for Vandire and the whole 'Age of Apostacy', in particular the final battle at the Imperial Palace. Sisters, astartes, guard, mechanicum, all battling it out with a guest-star appearance by the Emperor. Who could ask for more?

I'm going to have to say the second battle of Santuary 101, from James Swallow's book Hammer and Anvil. My favourite army, the Sisters, in a badass last stand against the Necrons. What I like about it is how the Sisters put up a strong fight despite the overwhelmingly large Necron force attacking them. I also love how even when they're close to losing, they all rally around their Canoness, who proceeds to fight the Necron Lord one-on-one, right on top of his own personal Monolith. Awesome stuff.

That cannoness duel on the Monollith was epic.

But my favorites are the Word Bearers attack on Calth. The scale of destruction was more massive than anything I've ever seen. It was something like 15 pages just devoted to one act of violence that blossomed into a worldwide cataclysm. And that was just the first shot so to speak.

Second is Battle of the Fang. I love the two arch enemies meeting again hundreds of years later with the Thousand Sons being so reduced in power and glory. You get a real sense of self loathing from some of them. It was a sequel to Prospero Burns and I loved it. And Bjorn dueling a primarch? Oh yes.

On Nimbosa, cramming as many guardsmen into troop carriers as possible.

The battle where wazdakka rams a warlord Titan and takes the princep's and crews' still flaming skulls.

Or the battle where the Elysian drop troops have to fight of bids on a moon and get devastated,
