Leaning more so on Mental Disorder but then there are some cases which one be mine. Eat as much as you can to maintain weight due to Chemo. Also tough smokers that quite. Its a transference to satisfy an alternative to nicotine craving. This is a broad subject to cover you know

Obesity can be caused by a lot of things. Laziness, poverty, genetic disorders, addictions, antipathy. It's foolish to pretend like its caused by any one thing.

I would say it's neither, unless in specific cases where it's diagnosed by a licensed doctor/physician. Most of it comes from being lazy and eating crappy food.

Edit - And I will agree with LordofHats about the genetics portion.

It can be of one thing and/or a combination of things. Another kicker to throw in is Perception. Obesity is like the new visual norm

Depends. Most of the time, it's a mental disorder. There are rare cases of people actually duffering from a disease but overall, I'd say most cases of obesity can be cured by proper nutrition and, sorry, getting your rear end up.

Theyroid issue mainly what I'm hearing a lot of. Also again its the mental fortification and motivation to get up and work some LBS off those that are capable of doing it. Then that's another ball to bounce. Either they start to hard, longer duration then need to be, or both. My first advice. Drink water for two weeks to hydrate and convince the body you are taking in enough water to release the "water fat". Start a mile for cardio either Mon, Wens, Fri or Tues, Thurs. or vice versa. Go a mile for a week then start adding a telephone pole distance. For endurance stick with push ups and crunches. Go thirty push ups by regular stance then go to your knees to finish. 3 sets. Then 3 sets of crunches of 40 a piece.

Imo, the most important thing is to...lift weights. Frequently. Build muscles as they help you burn the fat.

...and everything you posted

That's just a bizarre statement.

If it was in public, do it at home.

I live in a small place with no room(Really no room what so ever) I do run everyday, but when I tried to lift weights at the gym, I was intimidated by the others. Gyms can be scary.

Weight lifting is later. To be added in. The push ups will help with flexibility due to swaying side to side. Beer math is applied. You figure you can crank out 50 push ups without pause. Kool. Lets throw in some bench press. you weigh 190 so figure bar, and weights not to exceed 110 lbs. Nail out thirty push up, First grp of 20 presses on the bench, follow by 25 push ups, follow by 15 presses on the bench, follow by 25 push up. Follow for gaks and grins. Remove the weight from the bar and do a burn out with the bar only. We're going for weight loss and tone. Goal now is to even it all up to 30 press and 30 push ups. Then add 5 to them all. Keep drinking water. Lots of water. Keep away from the sports drink. Make you own using salt and sugar in warm water. Enough for taste. Cut like 90% of carb out of your diet

I hate working out in public-I got a workout bench and hand weights. Grab a couple adjustable dumbbells and a bench and do it in your living room. You can watch whatever TV you want (Super Hero cartoons for me), and not worry about being interrupted. Plus, if your current amount of lifting isn't what is the "norm" for your weight (like mine), nobody will make fun of you for it, nor will there be any perceived mockery.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I would not recommend starting in a fitness center for the exact reason you said: it's highly demotivating to go there as a "normal" or even overweight person and starting out when there are those huge walking cupboards around. I'd recommend buying some dumbbells, they aren't very expensive and buying some good running shoes if you aren't too heavy, else investing in an exercise bike might be better, though more expensive.

And the most important thing is changing your nutrition...I changed my nutrition to a low-carb nutrition. Max. 100g carbo in the morning, no animal protein, 5 hours w/o eating. Max 100g for dinner. 5 hours wait. Max 20g in the evening. Lots of protein in the evening. Sleep for at least 7 hours a night.

I tried lifting weights before, and various other exercise machines and stuff, but in my current condition (which has been the past 2+ years) I've been unable to do mostly anything.

Out of four limbs I have 2 fully functional ones. I was overweight before the issues, but damn has it made it worst.

I also love food. Probably the most pleasurable thing in the day for me. I get upset sometimes about my weight, but at least I haven't hit 20 stone once (280 pounds I think?).

I don't have a medical degree, nor have I extensively researched the issue, so I cannot give an informed opinion on whether I think obesity is a mental disorder or a disease. As far as I'm aware, mental disorders are considered diseases in some areas.

What we can, however, agree on is that whether it's a disorder or a disease, it's a huge issue that has to be looked into. People forget how to cook with all that super cheap, super easy ready-made food around. Even some of my friends could not even cook a proper stew without a recipe...and it's a lot worse if you look at what childeren nowadays know about cooking. It's really bad.

Never ever run in boots. You will destroy your feet. I only run in boots if I'm being shot at or making time on road marches be it 12, 24, and 50 milers. What shoe brands do you currently wear/enjoy while running.

edit
you changing out your running shoes every six month?

I dont know what kind, the ones that are cheap and are comfortable. And no, they never lasted 6 months, 4 at most. Boots are the only things I dont destroy, even regular shoes i burn through.

Never been through military service, was allowed to skip the German mandatory miliatary service due to my academic career. Finished school 2 years earlier than normal and was then too young to get in the military thus immediately went to university, finished my studies early and was immediately employed afterwards thus wasn't taken into consideration for military service again.

I was a chubby youngster back then and turned my life around again after almost having been killed at the age of 16. I have been training for close combat and knife fighting since the age of 15 and it's...ridiculous how much more effective you become when you are fit. I ain't a very bulky person, I mostly lack the time for a more intensive workout and gotta manage the rest of my private life as well Took classes in biofeedback training (pretty sure you're familiar with it) on top of it, helps a lot to stay calm in certain situations. So no, no Men's Health reader, I just keep an eye on myself for my own health and that of the people around me.

Plus: I have to lead by example. I am head of department and just can't afford being out of shape.

Greatest respect to you though, as you seem to be in miliary service. It's a shame how, especially the US, military gets treated by (mass) media.

6 month is average for running shoe change out. If you keep running in boots your looking at flat footed and bunuins...heel spurs.....and jam up toes...its going to suck eventually.

Probably work

I go through shoes fast too. New balance are some of the best (cheap) shoes I'd consider running in. They're cheap enough you can burn through a pair every 6 months or so (though mine have lasted over a year).

If we're using boots like as in black dress boots, I recommend Doc Martens. I've been wearing my pair daily for over a year and they're still in awesome condition, while a similar cheaper pair would have multiple holes in them.
