So have finally stearted my Game of Thrones Themed High elf army that is based on Daenerys Targaryen and her army. I am not trying to do a representation of the game of thrones world, but rather a high elf army that only takes some influence from the story of Daenerys in GOT.

Enough of the background. I have allready decided that i will do the baby dragons using some of the old GW small dragon models, which will be proxying great eagles in the army. I wanted to keep to the dragon theme, so that the dragon is present in most units of the army. There will be dragon princes ofc, but then i was stumped on what to use as a frostheart phoenix, as i love their rules, but the official model does not fit into my armys theme at all. So after some thought i was thinking of maybe using a Warhydra model as a heavy proxy for the phoenix. I would cut off two of it's rear most heads and adding it wings from the daemon prince kit to make it look like a three headed dragon that is the Targaryen sigil. Ofc there are no such things in Game of Thrones, but it would serve as a really rare ice dragon that The elf maiden Daenerys and her army had found after her exile and a long march in the deserts of arabya (or any other desert in the warhammer world).

So any comments on my frostheart phoenix proxy idea? Would you let me play it as such?

I don't watch GOT, but it sounds like a cool idea and I like how the War Hydra sounds. The only thing is that the DP wings are folded up in landing mode. Personally I prefer the open wing look thst Hive Tyrant wings give but maybe not on a War Hydra. Good luck and be sure to post pics when finished.

I intend to use the DP wings just because the hydra model is on the ground so open wings would look a bit silly IMO.

So converted the model by basically leaving the two side heads off and replacing them with wings. The model looks cool IMO.




Also i decided to make it into a flamespyre phoenix, as it is more to the fluff of dragons than an frostheart phoenix would be

The conversion looks pretty good to me! It's hard to make out the wing/body join in that picture, though, so I'd just check they they blend in well there (i.e. that the wings look organic rather than just glued on).

This turned out much better than expected, although the wings were expected to be vertical behind the other heads, back to back really so that may have been the reason. This looks great

I still need to use some green stuff on the whole model and fill in the gaps where the wings are glued at. I myself am quite pleased on how well the scale of the DP wings match the scale of the hydra's body. I will be painting the model red as in the sigil.
