What should be posted?
Post all games! They're insightful even when lopsided.
Only post close games, no one likes to watch you club seals.
If it doesn't come down to turn 7 it isn't worth reading.
Games aren't even worth writing about.

For completions sake, I write a Battle Report every time I play a game, and post it on my blog. This is for me as much as anyone else, so I can look back and see what worked, what didn't, and what to look out for. However, how many of these should be posted to Dakka? I like to think my Batreps can help people trying to play competitive Tyranids, but there are some games that are so one sided I feel bad. Basically, does anyone want to read a game where one army absolutely curb stomps the other? I alwasy play competetive at tournaments, even RTTs, and although I'm friendly about it, someimes you get drawn vs the guy who wrote his list during deployment. Please answer in the poll above, and comment below!

How good does a game have to be in order to be posted as a Batrep?

I like to hear about anything and everything so for me, POST EVERYTHING! It's all potentially helpful imo.

Edit: I just googled ablutions and apparently it does not including dropping a duece. I should have looked it up early sorry for any confusion. - Baldsmug

Wait, what were we talking about again? Did I ever tell you about the time I gave you five bees for a quarter? That's what you'd say in those days, "give me five bees for a quarter", is what you'd say in those days. And you'd go down to the D&D shop, with an onion in your belt, 'cause that was the style of the time. So there I was in the D&D shop..."

I pretty much just read anything involving Tau, so I have my own personal filter in that regard. I have no issues with other stuff getting posted though, no matter how one sided it was, I just probably won't read it

Thanks for the input guys, looks like the consensus is to post all of them.

I have to disagree: reading a one-sided massacre is just pointless. I'm not learning anything by playing that kind of game, and I'm certainly not learning anything by reading an endless list of "I rolled dice and removed another one of my opponent's units from the table". Unless the massacre somehow involved an interesting strategic decision (ideally, one that led to the massacre) that kind of game tends to be very straightforward with little decision-making besides target priority choices.

(Unless of course you're doing it as a narrative or artistic thing where the actual game events don't really matter, but I'm assuming you're talking about a standard battle report.)

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

I went with "post all games" since even in a fairly lopsided match, interesting things can happen. I've had games where I was getting the crap kicked out of me for four turns, but on the last stretch of the game I was able to pull some heroic last stand or bold move that, while not successful, was at least fun and interesting. I'd much rather see close games, but even still, I like the spectacle of the game, so as long as the armies are painted and there's some good pictures I'll check out damn near anything.

Well, due to time restrictions, I'd prefer tight games.

Pretty good. That said, I don't judge a battle report by how nearly the winner lost, or how long the game lasted. Well, maybe I do a teeny bit, but just having a long game isn't enough for me to bother.

A good game for me has much more to do with the quality of the pictures taken, the interestingness of the events, and the other little touches, like narration, picture editing, etc. That's what makes a report good, not whether it was a one-sided slaughter or not.

All that said, I try and write a battle report for every game I play. In part to be generally entertaining, in part for historical accuracy and providing a bunch of data points (even if they're sloppy, I still think they can be useful), and in part because it forces me to MAKE games interesting.

If you have tons of batreps and you don't want to clog the forums just make one main post and give links to the batreps on your blog. But really the more batreps the better. As for one sided batreps, it really depends. If your army list is really good and crushed your opponent's tournament ready crons/ig/csm/tau then I will want to read it because it will be interesting how the army works. If you beat up on a newbie who doesn't have a solid list and doesn't know how to play, then I probably don't want to read it.

I judge a batrep by how its presented more than the actual game its self.
Ive seen batreps which were 1 sided, but the way they were done was amazing, and really kept interest though it all.

I'd say post them all, even if people learn nothing from it, people may point out ideas to you, which in turn gives you ways to make your batreps better.

I'd say posting massacres may still be worth it, if there are lessons to be learnt from the game.

"I deployed and got shot to pieces by pie plates" is very different to "I made a mistake by not making better use of cover."

The first doesn't tell anyone anything new, the second is something you can take away and use to improve your game next time.
