Subject: How Critisism and Complaining ruined my first Custom Built Warhammer Table.

Mutilatin' Mad Dok

After over a YEAR of people complaining how my lava was not "red" and how it needed to be "red and black". I was forced into completely changing the vision of my original table.
My vision was a land that had just erupted into a firey plum of fire and death near mine shafts and a flat open land wish some raised areas.
When I see lava I see Bright colors of White and Lots of Yellow and Orange and in cooler areas where the lava is cooling down into the black molten crap that turns into rock.
I see red there. But mine was just erupted.
As you can see my table here....its quite abysmal as to what I was "forced" into changing my table into.
TABLE BEFORE CHANGES
TABLE AFTER CHANGES
As you can see its quite abysmal and what a REAL fething bitch is that I was....epic sigh...feth..
COMPLIMENTED on this horrible freaking look the table had. Now its this bland. Tasteless and completely ugly thing I hate.
It was either change i myself or my Store Manager was going to take a fething can of SPRAY PAINT and change it himself....
All because customers fething Bi*ched about how the lava didn't look good. Although I think that he is lying to me and he is just complaining himself about it.
If customers are not complaining and he is lying about that just so he can get away with forcing me to change it just because HE didn't like it well...I don't want to imagine him
doing such a horrible thing.
I fething hate everybody.

They were probably taking about the cooled stuff.

Ok mate, first you need to calm down. Second, how exactly were you Vasarto wrote: forced into completely changing the vision of my original table.
It's your table. Do the lava how you want it. What I'm seeing is that you gave into peer pressure and did something you regret. Just change it back if it bothers you so much.
For what it's worth I like your original version much better.

Do you work in the store, or something? Because if you don't, I see no way in which anyone could have forced you to change.
If anything, personally, I think the second one actually looks a bit better. Just paint in a layer of orange, only leaving the red around the edges of the black, and you've got yourself some decent lava.

I prefer the original, and would have told the manager to paint it himself if he didn't like it.
He asked you to build/paint the board, I imagine you gave him a brief on what you were going to do and he ok'd it.
You built it.
He didn't like it.
He can change it.

I can appreciate the effort that you went into shading the lava in your original version. I personally prefer it to the new one. Real shame you changed it.

I understand your need to vent. That first one looked pretty good. That big blob of shiny lava looks much better than the muted mess you were forced to do.
Oh, and I hope it was just this case, but your boss sounds like an idiot.

As much as venting might feel good, since you're an employee of a store working on a project for the store, if the management of the the store was reading this thread you might lose your job.
I have a friend who works for a fast food chain and monitors social media for people who post negative comments regarding the company and if they are employees it can be grounds for termination.
Something about "causing harm to the brand" or something like that.
Just an FYI.

A) You had a picture of the "before" so any further complaints of the new scheme you are vindicated.
B) It can always be painted again, nothing with paint is permanent.
C) It is part of your job to sometimes humor the boss. Hate to say but "suck it up": it could have been worse. Not doing what boss says sometimes equals go find new job.
D) I applaud how passionate you are about what you do. Some people would have said "Meh, I could paint it pink with fuzzy trim if you want, I don't care."
E) Think the original was better because it is brighter and "pops" all arguments aside about how real it looks.
F) They can google "lava" under images and think about it.
G) Think that the "real" reason they were complaining is the paint job of the lava was brighter and better than their models and was showing them up.
H) All I can say now is it makes a great chaos world terrain piece "Rivers of blood for the blood god!!!".
Hang in there and relax or you will need a different hobby.

Lava is not easy to paint. People snatching about your lava not being authentic? Get a high-grade container, put more high rate temperature resistant stuff inside it for terrain, and out molten glass into all the crevices. "oops" there goes your $30 Necron character. "d'awwww..." your poor elder Titan just got turned to smoke and plastic slag......

I liked the original better. Perhaps you can highlight the new version to brighten it up and make it look less bloody. Who would complain about the shade of lava on an awesome custom made board? I feel lucky just to play on a 6 X4 table with a green mat.

do not highlight it. It will not work. Had you painted it yellow, dry-brushed orange/red, and then black on top, it would have looked "right". Putting yellow on top of the black will...... uh.... not look like anything, and you WILL have to start all over again for sure, no way out of it.

Too bad those guys didnt know what was what.. I thought the original looked better as well. I make the terrain for the Bugeater GT and I know what you mean about cry-babies...sometimes you just can t please everyone.
But to salvage it....
Paint all areas of lava white.
over that paint yellow, then drybrush orange down to red.
Then hit the whole thing with a rough drybrush of black then charcoal grey...that should shut those guys up!!

I like the original version much better also. BUT, you can fix the table and keep the red lava that makes people happy. Take a look here:
https://www.google.com/search?q=red+lava&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=ATjJUbrPJciKiAKAnoDgCQ&biw=1920&bih=989&sei=AjjJUfT3MonUigL-9IHgDA
It looks like the problem is you have too much red. Simply add a lot of black and use the red sparingly in "veins" of molten magma showing through the cooling lava. Also try some red OSL and glow to make it look less like blood or bland red and more like glowing lava.

oh snap, OP, I see your problem in your original lava. It's the exact same problem I had. The lava may be so hot it's yellow, but the glow is still orange/red. Your original still looks better than your forced remake.
If you are lazy and don't want to repaint it as yet, just make a brass throne and a brass khorne icon, and stick them in. Problem solved until you find the patience to repaint it again.
