Hey guys,

What's a good FLGS in north Sydney? I'm there for a bit and I'd like to buy some stuff. Preferably the shop would stock things like Infinity, WM/H, Mantic KoW stuff and, if possible, historical games like Saga or Hail Caesar (though those games are a secondary concern). I don't mind going to multiple shops, but one with a lot of the stuff would be good.

Thanks!

Don't know of ANY north of the bridge, mate (well, not until you hit Gosford, at any rate).

There is a nice new Good Games in the CBD right upstairs from the GW battle bunker though (two blocks from the QVB), in Clarence street.
KOW is dicey at the best of times. Problem with kickstarters, is that you have already pre-sold to most store markets, so they have no-one left to sell to.

Saga/Hail caeser tend to be sold there, though. As well as wm/h and the normal stuff like cards and paints and glues.

You missed the boat on a city-based store that ticked all the boxes, though - by a few years. Tin Soldier used to be it - but it closed and was re-opened by new owners way out in Penrith.

Ooh, sounds good! So they'd stock like the Saga rulebooks and stuff?

Most probably.
Other Good Games Stores do, so I'd assume so - or at least they'd be able to get them.

If you're on fb, they have a page, too.
Look for "good games cbd" - it's a closed group, so you'll have to ask to join it, but you can ask them questions directly that way.

They have players come from all over to play there - it's their largest store I believe (in the "good games" stable).

I live in South West Sydney, but when the time arises that I do want to purchase stuff I always make the trip out to Tin Soldier Penrith. It's a pretty good store, it's at least worth a look cause of all the different stuff they have.

Make the trip somewhere closer to home. You won't regret it.

Hall of Heroes is definitely worth the trip. Only thing is, it's a fair distance from North Sydney.

I'm less enthralled with Good Games. They're new, and I've already had a bad experience with them, albeit it's just over the phone, and a fairly minor issue.

Yeah I've dropped into Hall of Heroes a few time, never brought my army in though and it's also a really good store (both are too far from you though I think). I might be wrong, but what I noticed about Hall of Heroes was how popular non-GW games were. How are the prices at Hall of Heroes?

I personally like tin soldier because they have 4-5 sections of the store dedicated to 3rd party bits. I.e. Kromlech, maximini, Scibor, Micro art studio and secret weapon. I like to stockpile those blisterpacks and then never use them lol. Also, they are open to midnight 3 times a week.

I'd probably go there but its an hour and half from my place on public transport so....
That being said I did pop my head in there once with n0t_u to get some magnets when I had an arvo break from uni, seemed like a decent place, quite spacious too, bit out of the way though (imo).

I was merely responding to masterdoobie who said he goes to Penrith to buy stuff but lives in South West Sydney.

What is there around Alfred Park in Sydney, I'm here for possibly two weeks, waiting on passports, might need something to kill some time.

Game popularity waxes and wanes. Warmahordes was super popular about when GW did their finecast/price hike/embargo hat trick, but GW games have gotten popular again. Most days, unless it's a day specifically for one game like a league day, all games are pretty well represented.

Prices are a bit odd. Some kits are discounted, some not. Just depends if what you want happens to be one they've discounted.

Hall of Heroes stocks all of that as well.

Where is Hall of Heroes? Their site is terrible!!

Yup, the site IS terrible.
The store is quite good though - a bunch of us Novacastrians came down last year for an infinity day (a 3 hour each way trip). God THAT was a looooong day.

Their sniddys are good, their service is good and what they don't stock I didn't need.

I just moved to the Sydney area and popped into the Good Games Clarence street. I was really impressed with the place, Stocked loads of stuff that I used to order online.

Does anyone know if they run a 40k Club there? I've found some info on fantasy clubs but couldn't see anything 40k related.

There is a group of 40k players, but not a club as such. I think it's saturday/sunday that are their gazetted 40k days, but tournaments will throw this off, and pick up games can be arranged on other days.

The fantasy "club" that has their home there relocated from the Central store (near Railway Square) - the Infernal Muppets - several of whom are ETC players (Sam Moore, etc).

Need some more information than just "Alfred park" in Sydney. There is no suburb named that (that I'm aware of) and there are many Alfred Parks, both princes and otherwise.

Got any idea what part of Sydney it's in?

If Eldercaveman is referring to "waiting around for passports", it's likely to be the Alfred Park around Cleveland St - I think that's closer to immigration than any other place.

There's nothing around that area as far as I'm aware of. The man might need to make a short hop to Clarence St, in the heart of the CBD, or that tiny RPG-style place along Pitt St close to Chinatown-side (can't remember the name now) - the one that's not too far off from King's Comics.

Hey all.
Would love to find out if there are good FLGS around CBD Sydney or north sydney as well.

Used to drop into Tin Soldier, but that is gone now. Sadness....

The place Gohkm is referring to on Pitt close to Chinatown is Games Paradise. They do a lot of board games, but also stock some GW stuff. I think they have a gaming area upstairs, but have not ventured upstairs myself... Could be just for card games and such.

Meanwhile, I've been salivating over the Dreamforge Eisenkern dudes. Just wondering if any Aussies know if any local retailers stock these, or which foreign online retailer other Aussies use to get more obscure lines....

Yeah, that's the one, Games Paradise. 2nd floor is all RPGs, I remember there's lots of D&D stuff.

In the CBD itself, your best bets are the GW Bunker and Good Games on Clarence, or HobbyCo - although, admittedly, HobbyCo is a really a place of last resort.

For Dreamforge stuff, I don't know any Australian retailers who stock the stuff. But you could call up Defiant Gaming (http://defiantgaming.com/shop/index.php?_a=category&cat_id=98), they might consider bringing it in for, and ditto for the Tin Soldier @ Penrith.

A bit off topic, but any recommendations for online options for Aussies?

There was a time I went to maelstrom for there free shipping, but not sure which the best option for Aussies is now. All the US based stores seem to have horrendous shipping....

Tin Soldier Penrith stocks the Eisenkern troops, I saw them there a few days ago. I'll by going there Friday night to play, so I can report back if they are still there. Also in terms of online shopping, my friends and I use http://www.thecombatcompany.com/. It's the best local website I know to get a range of different things for discount. Also there is http://victoriaminiatures.highwire.com/, if imperial guard-esque models are your thing.

I was a bit naive to the layout of Sydney at this point, it was Prince Albert park, in Redfern I believe. Not far from central station.

It is all irrelevant now however, as I am currently sat in the airport about to go back the UK

My recommendation would change depending on what you want to order and how much of it.

Like a large amount of Games Workshop product, Id use Discount Games Store on ebay, if your not ordering a single kit it's a large saving. They've thrown in extras for me over the past with a large order as well. (resin bases for the center peice models, an extra squad, some conversion parts). Also sorted out errors they have made quickly and without any questions.

Single GW Kits or Kits from other Companies which don't get Marked up as much (Hordes, Warmachine, Infinity, paints/supplies etc), I'd use The Combat Company (as doobie said) . All my past orders with these guys have been superb.

If you start using a Local Store for gaming I'd purchase most of my kits/hobby needs from them. Some people differ on this but I just see it as a slap in the face for the store owner if you don't.

Several Good Games stores stock them - and if one can get them they all should be able to. They have stores in Canberra, Sydney, Central Coast and Newcastle at least. Possibly even Melbourne. I got mine from the local (Newcastle) store, but I've seen them in Sydney as well at the GG cbd store (upstairs from GW).
