Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions

I guess the title says it all, They have not had an update in quite some time, are they still a viable army? I like a lot of the models, but I at least want a fighting chance and not build an army just so my brothers can wipe the floor with bolter bitches.

My work as a soldier is done and now passes to you for I have great tasks to perform in my earthly sanctum. But words of caution I have for you for your brother Primarchs are strong of will, of thought and of action.

Viable is an overused term.
Sister of Battle are usable. The trouble is finding the two WD issues with the rules.

I have PDFs of the two WD rule sets.

Yes. They are viable. They do not do anything very flashy and have no splashy models that go over the top, but they perform solidly.
In the hands of a player who knows what they are doing, Sisters can compete.

I have only been playing Sisters for just under a year now. It has been my experience, they can be quite devastating against certain armies. However, as with most 40K armies, there are some really bad match ups.
Against power armor and terminators, they can bring so much AP1 to the table that you can catch a lot of people by surprise. However, they have very little long range firepower, so they need to get close. Against highly mobile armies or ones with a ton of long range firepower, they struggle.
Lastly, it seems they seem to thrive at 1500 and under. They start capping out around 1850. I suppose at double force org levels, things could get interesting again, but I have never gone that high due to the excessive cost of the models.

It's worth playing Sisters just to see your opponents face when you win.
Also the models are cool and people always have kind things to say about them, it'll also make you strong lugging all that metal about.

Yes, Sisters are very viable. Especially with allies in 6th.
Also, Celestine is the best warlord in the game, hands down.

I have to agree with Pretre and curran12 on this one.
Most opponents expect to curb stomp you because sisters are supposedly an awful codex. However, I have had more success with the sisters codex than I did with several other more traditional ones.
Dominions in general tend to make people's jaws drop. My average opponent is not ready for 2-3 TL multi-meltas to be in their face turn 1. Then 6 girls with 2 meltaguns bail out of each one on top of that. All of a sudden, all of their high priced stuff is dead and they are wondering how they just got their face kicked in by girls.
Good times.

They're not exacty up there with Necrons, but they're certainly viable. Until you get into close combat they're basically Space Marines, have melta all over the place, you've got St. Celestine, who competes with Trollzyn for trolliest unit in 40k, and rending Heavy Bolters. I repeat, RENDING HEAVY BOLTERS.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, this is definitely an army that is not represented in my current circle and one that I personally enjoy the look of quite a bit. They also do have the reputation of being "Bolter Bitches" amongst my local play circle so I have a feeling I would get a lot of the same reactions you guys are and that is always fun, it's a long the same lines of "How many of those Necrons just stood back up?"

Back in third edition, we had a faith act that allowed models to stand back up from death as well. Ahh, those were the days...

They're very viable and competitive, but they're not top tier. They just don't have enough versatility. And I just can't seem to win against Necrons.

Primaris Psyker Platoon Command with Flamers Infantry with Power Axe, Flamer Infantry with Power Axe, Flamer Infantry with Power Axe, Flamer Infantry with Power Axe, Flamer Vendetta Manticore Attach Jacobus, Primaris and Celestine to the Blob Squad. Laugh maniacally. PCS goes in with the flamers. Just drop that in with the rest of your sisters and enjoy the ride. If you want more Anti-Air, throw Autocannons in the blob or get more infantry squads with autocannons (or HWS with Autocannons)

Nice. I've been toying with the idea iof anIG army for a few years, allies for my Sisters has always appealled but I could never figure out a nice synergy. I could see the above working well, especially since the restriction of faith points at higher levels can hurt us.

Yeah, if you get good with blobs, the Celestine/Jacobus/Primaris blob just is ridiculous.
The anti-air from the Vendetta and the anti-horde/AV from the Manticore are just icing.

Good times.
Reminds me of a game I had last weekend.
Playing against an IG army. Wasn't super optimized, but a still pretty solid list and gunline. In tow was the guys' friends, who did plenty of talking against the Sisters. The talk was pretty frequent when I took a few good ordinance shots, but by the time the 14-3 victory was over, the trash talk was replaced with "well, I don't really play my marines much anymore, I'm focusing on LOTR."
