Unit A is fighting Unit B

Unit A is an infantry unit, has no unit champion, and has 1 character in it who is on a Monstrous Cavalry Base (Epidimius if it helps)

A character in Unit B issues a challenge. Does Epidimus have to accept, or is he allowed to go to the back of a unit? I know the rules for No Where To Hide states that if a model cannot be placed in the back rank, or out of base-to-base contact with the enemy, it must fight. I was told that if a character is of a different unit type (cavalry with infantry) and so forth, it must remain in the front.

Long story short; If Epidimus is in a unit of nothing but infantry, with no champion or other characters, must he accept a challenge?

Is your concern that he's too fat to hide? It doesn't say anything about different types.

Like the most extreme example I can think of would be if a caster uses Kadon's Transformation, turns into a monster, and remains in its infantry unit. There is a challenge, refused, and you could conceivably have a dragon at the back of an infantry unit looking silly.

ONly different base size matters for placement in a unit. If the model is i na unit of 20x20mm models and is 50x50mm, it must be placed on the side of the unit as it doesnt fit within the unit.

So in that case you would be forced to accept (or couldnt be picked as a target for refusing) if you couldnt be placed out of base contact with an enemy model

In your example, the 50mm Epidimus displaces 4 plague bearers, and ranks up in the unit. If he wants to refuse a challenge he'd displace 4 models in the back.

If the base sizes aren't even, then you'd do just what nosferatu said.
