Fateweaver. The only advantage to a LoC is that he's better in assault. You have a Thirster. Fateweaver brings the buffs, the shooting, and more importantly, he brings reliability.

Fateweaver and the LOC. Drop the Thirster.

Seriously, the LOC with Lesser Gift (+2 strength concussive staff), 2 Greater Gifts, and ML3 is a beast. I've found it far more useful than the Thirster.

Well yeah, this. LoC is better in almost every way than a Thirster, but I was just trying to answer his question within his confines. Haha. But if we're piling on. Don't even bother with the Thirster

(There's a good argument for FW and a Lash Prince over FW and LoC though, I debate back and forth on that one all the time)

Personnaly drop the thrister for 2 heralds of tzeentch with exalted each, grimoire and portalglpyh, and find the pts for a third prince with biomancy, every time I have faced a BT with my princes I have managed to kill it easily enough, either from enfeeble and smash (with grimoire or warp speed) or iron armed princes.

Fateweaver's free re-roll can be great, but I almost always go LoC.

Here are my three main reasons why:

1. FW sucks in assault. Like really, really, really sucks. A LoC with the staff is great and can pwn a lot of other enemy combat characters.
2. FW cannot access greater rewards and has reduced strength and toughness (and WS, A, I). His 4+ invul can't quite compensate for that.
3. Although FW has more psychic powers (including all Tzeentch!!!) he only gets one possible roll on divination and I normally use two on the LoC.

Both are really strong greater daemons but the LoC (ML3 and 2Gr + 1Lr) is just more rounded IMO.

And swap the Bloodthirster for a herald or two.

I generally use Fateweaver as a "finishing move" if you will. He usually starts in reserve (as his reroll abilities, RAW, do not require him to be on the board), and my Army does it's thing. Then he shows up, gets Grimoired, and goes trolling. It's really frustrating to have an invulnerable FMC in your face shooting things to death. Worst case scenario, he gets grounded, assaulted, and he gets tarpitted by something all game (which is usually fine, because he can still cast maledictions and blessings).

I also think my new anti-Tau strategy is keep everything outside of 36 inches and go kill all the Troops with an invincible Fateweaver. Tau shooting past 36 inches isn't a big deal, and Fateweaver just murders Firewarriors and Kroot.

Well, Fateweaver has a better Invulnerable, and the re roll, and a very diverse spread of powers.

The Lord of Change has more focused (more Divination rolls) powers and the ability to take gifts, but a cheaper Invuln.

You could take one each if you aren't partial to Heralds. I like heralds however, so I would take one. I think the re roll to the Grimoire is a big boost, plus the warp storm chart, so ultimately I like old Fatey better, but the LoC has definite merits as well.

I was pondering that question as well - FW or LoC? Nowadays, my answer would be both. However, if you are really deadset on taking the BT, then I would go for FW instead. Why? The BT is comparable to the LoC in combat, however, FW, offers something to the army that neither the BT or LoC can - a huge force multiplier. I wasn't convinced about FW at first after initially doing poorly with him with my first 2 games and so dropped him. Recently, I've been giving him another go and I have to say, I am sold. My balanced daemon lists will always use him (though I can't say the same for my unbalanced daemons lists).
