Subject: Tau, Commander Farsight army. What to bring..?

So I'm thinking of changing my generic Tau into a Farsight Enclave army and I was curious about what people think a Farsight army should have. Fire Warriors and many Crisis Suits is the basics, But what else should Farsight bring? And what should he avoid?

From what I've seen, the only real difference with a Farsight army is that it lets you lump all your battlesuitsinto one big unit that can be made extrordinarily difficult to kill. All the rest of the Tau army remains the same, so whatever mixture of Fire warriors, Kroot and vehicles tickles your fancy.

No ethereals and no kroot id say. I cant remember off the top of my head but the last codex didnt let you take either. Also since their tech was considered to be a little outdated id say none of the super fancy upgrades or any riptides.

Apparantly Tau are getting a Farsight Enclave supplementary codex, I'm going to wait for that (And hope it comes out as an actual book and not just digital download) and then I can make a Farsight army! ^_^

A proper, effective Farsight list needs 7 bodyguards (one with full gadgets, 6 with a mix of dual weapons and Target Locks - i use 1 FB, 2 MPs and 3 PRs - and at least 10 Gun Drones), it absolutely needs Shadowsun, and i think a SM Librarian with GoI is a very, very strong addition to it as well.
After that, you can get whatever you want, i personally use minimum troops, 3 full drones Broadsides and 2 skyrays, and it's a VERY effective list.

You do want the farsight bomb of doom with all the kitted out death suits, and a couple more crisis teams as support. Then sprinkle in lots of fire warriors, and yeah, maybe a couple skyrays or seeker missile fish for flavor.
The bit about adding shadowsun, it makes the bomb super hard to kill, but it's also kindof heresy. I really hope they come out with a farsight codex, he should have his own.

No Kroot, Vespid or Ethereals is a good start.
The enclaves dont have the same resources so you can represent it by having a ton of infantry and suits rather than tanks and Piranhas.
Of course you can wait for the new Farsgight supplement to release and get a better setup.

Are you going for fluffy farsight or the new farsight bomb deathstar?
for fluffy, the enclaves were very far from home, supplies and neat toys were limited. As well alien ally conscripts (Kroot Vespid etc) were out of the army.
so lots of full squads of fire warriors, possibly mounted in Dfish (w SMS) lots of suits, technically he wouldn't have access to riptides (unless sympathizers got some to him). same with tanks, in the old codex hammerheads, broadsides and skyrays were 0-1. Basically a mobile hit and run infantry heavy army.
Although with the new digital supplement coming out, everything we know about farsight could get flushed down the toilet.
for deathstar there are a bunch of gross builds out there, it truely reaches epic cheese with double FOC so you can take 4 HQs, farsight, shadowsun, army buff commander and CC commander. and all 7 bodyguards with target lock and 2 weapons (plasma/fusion) to shoot as many units as they want.

Does Farsight even have a place in either fun or competitive tau army unless its a farsight bomb? ive tried putting lists together using him without the bomb idea and it just always makes me go "Why am i using this guy instead of a normal commander?"
Precision deepstrike might be useful in certain games but in my meta, not really. Theres almost always large open areas since we lack a ton of terrain. Despite my horrid luck deepstriking with Zagstruk, ive never mishapped any tau deepstrikes even with a bad scatter (had a couple times i had to change my tactic cuz i boxcars scattered away from my intended target lol).
Farsight makes me wish Tau had at least one unit that actually could melee without luck. Suits punch hard, but only 2 attacks base and usually miss them. Always found it funny that they include such a nasty melee character into a non-melee army
