Hi guys, I just got half of the models I ordered a month ago. Of course, I just had to assemble the big impressive riptide first. I quite liked how it turned out, since I had a specific pose in mind that kind of came to me as I saw how much pose-ability this model had. I just wanted to put some pictures up here to see what everybody thought.
Keep in mind that I'm pretty out of practice (i.e. this is the first model I've assembled for over a yer) and I was never really good with conversions to begin with. The base will get painted with some of that pre-mixed basing sand to make the foam look like a sand dune. The idea was that the riptide knelt on the top of a dune to get a stable firing platform, I failed to take into account how incredibly awkward a reverse jointed knee looked when it was kneeling.
The main weapon is magnetized on the small chance I might want to run this with the burst cannon at some point. If you want I can take pictures of the magnetization and the secondary weapons (which are just press fit at the moment until I can get some smaller magnets).

Looks great so far. I'm loving how distinct some of these guys end up looking. Mind you I've only seen a few Riptides running around, but so far they're all modelled differently.
Can't wait to see it painted.

Yeah, the chicken leg can make for some interesting problems. However, the first pic looks like he just blew up a tank and is "swaggering" on by like it was nothin'. Love it.

Sounds like a good idea.

This model just cries out for LED lights...I'm not normally a huge fan of them, but I think that the Riptide in particular can really benefit by having its plasma weapons lit up!

Knees aren't supposed to bend that way, but the Riptide has backwards facing chicken walker style knees. Don't ask me why, I can't see any structural advantage to having your knees break forward instead of back. I'd be interested in someone who knows this kind of thing explaining if walking is even possible with a leg geometry like that. it looks bloody awkward.

No. If you look at a bird skeleton, that backwards knee is their heel . Their knees are up in their bodies, pointing forward like ours. Your riptide would have to lean way back to keep his balance.
