I recently got some VC and I am wondering, What is our main units that we use? Or is it nothing like 40k, where If you want to do good you HAVE to take certain units.

Also is there anything else I should know about VC before I start to play them? and where is this magical weaponry that I keep seeing being posted?

Current Armys:
Dark Eldar 1500pts
Black Templars 1500pts

Magic weapon/armour/trinkets are in the VC book, and the normal ones are in the WHFB (p173)

Ok. I do not yet have the WHFB, so this makes sense.

As in 40K, some units are better than other, but having a more powerful army than your opponent doesn't tip the scale in your favour as much as player skill in WHFB
Even with a "weaker" army, you can outmanoeuver your opponent and pick your battles in a more favourable way. Note that Undead armies are not that good at it usually due to their slowness (no march, even if mitigated by magic)

Classical builds are (to name a few):
- Black Knight delivery unit for a very killy Vampire Lord
- Grave Guard Horde with Vampires
- Screaming contest /w banshees and thingyghasts
- Zombie madness with huge blocks, lots of necromancers and Corpse carts/Mortis engines

There are usually zombie bunkers as well, plus often a big unit of ghoul to work towards Core requirements, big group of Crypt Horrors are good as well
But nothing is terribad in the VC army, so you can play around with a lot of toys

The beauty of the VC book is that practically everything in it is good to use. Some things may be better than others, but there's really nothing in there that's completely useless. Not all fantasy armies are like this, but I played VC for several years and my list had a little bit of everything in it and it worked very well. You really do have the freedom to take the units you like as opposed to the "netlist".
