Some friends and I are going to Gamesday at the end of next month. I have said that I don't want to bring models because
A. They will be a pain to drag around gamesday
a. lug around the crowded event
b. keep up with
c. keep vehicles, wraiths, spyders in tact.
B. May get stolen or lost
a. Memphis is a rough town the 36 mafia may try to shoot me and take my models to trade for more dope to sell so they can get back into the rap game.
b. people just have sticky fingers and may take them just cause it will be easy to do.

They keep nagging me and saying I won't have any fun with out my models with me. However, I think I will have just as much fun watching others play looking at all the different models, talking to GW staff (writers forgeworld peeps ect.) and then if I do get board Ill just go to a bar, get drunk, then take a cab to Graceland and cry for Elvis. (Totally doing that anyway why would you drive 9.5 hours to Memphis and not do that?) Any advice on this from people who have went and not brought models?

Just bring a Baneblade or something like that, Im sure they will be pushing Apoc during the event. That way you have one thing to bring and its easy to keep track of, or dont, since you seem to be really really worried someone is going to take your stuff.

I went to a number of Games Days in the early 2000s in Baltimore. A few I brought models to and a few I didn't. One was to play in the tournament they had going.

If its anything like those, they will have tables set up for gaming with models on them to play. I got to experience WFB and some pretty amazing tables this way.

A few times clubs had tables set up. I still have my Golden Gobbo Trophy from the Gobbo 'Lympics table that the Iron Fist League (I think it was them) did one year. It's my good luck charm and I have it out for every game I've played since then.

I (or the buddy I went with every time) never had a problem bringing our armies and playing. Just have a good carrying case that is easy to carry and you should be good. Back then I was using a GW small case and I was fine. My buddy still uses the same tackle box now that he had then. Again, no issues.

I use the 412 Battle Foam bag now and I would totally use that if GD was close to me again here in LA.

Kiwi461 Thank you for being the only helpful poster so far. So I may just bring what will fit in my small carry case and that's it. I am kind of interested in seeing WFB anyway as I have never seen it as we just have a small gaming group of about 5 peeps who play in a garage with pimped out models and terrain. maybe they will have blood bowl or something like that going on too.

@kronk I will bring a camera but just so I can get a picture with juicy j if I happen to see him...

Jeez dude! A little... Harsh? He was only trying to help. Prehaps you could of said "Thanks but thats not the kind of information I'm looking for. Id like to know xxxx."
"Made me the dumber by reading it." Seriously? Use your manners, people will like you better for it.

I regards to your origonal request, I too have not had a problem taking models to gamesday, just make sure you have a good carry case.

I went to GD, brought my daemon army, never used it. I wouldn't recommend it. Unless you only bring 500pts, because they used to at least do Warhammer in a Flash games.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

You'll want a camera, some superglue + zip kicker for the building contest, and some clippers.

Beyond that, you don't really need anything.

Bring a cell phone with a nice camera so you can be the first person to upload a pic of the super secret gamesday mini that GW doesn't want to show us in case it actually stirs up some excitement.

I wouldn't bring an army, because there probably won't be anywhere to use it or time to use it (I brought one to last GD in the UK and it never left the car). If there is gaming space it'll be staff run demos with miniatures there, and for everything else everything you need will be provided.

Unless there's an actual tournament on, you should just bring yourself and a camera (and your wallet).

If you pan on entering Golden Demon then obviously your entries are a good start. Second up is the camera, I went to GDUK last year and regretted not having one with me just because the entries to golden daemon and the scenic displays were awesome.

Spending money is a must for games day releases, exclusives, black library stuff etc, I could have happly spent 10x what I brought if I had the chance.

Bag to store stuff you buy, snacks/drink (if allowed) the stuff they sell is quite expensive snackwise atleast it was at GDUK.

Comfortable shoes, you may end up queueing to queue to queue for alot of the stuff

And you are not being paranoid. Stuff sitting around a club is one thing, stuff sitting around at Games Day is another matter entirely.

What would I take?
Well, while the only Games Days I've been to are in the UK, I believe the advice is still valid.

The only models I'd take would be my Golden Daemon entry, if I was entering one.
There are usually plenty of participation games going on that you don't need your own models for.
I usually take;
1.A Camera
2. Spare batteries/memory card.
3. Paracetamol
4. Notepad and pencil
5. Deodorant
6. Wet Wipes.
7. Clean t-shirt
8. Money.

If the thought of something makes me giggle for longer than 15 seconds, I am to assume that I am not allowed to do it.

I went to a Baltimore GD a few years ago, brought some models and never found an opportunity to use them. All I remember was waiting in the Forgeworld line and the terrain building thing, and that's only cause me and my friends got a couple of free ruins out of it that we still use. Actually, there was this one panel where Abnett read a chapter from Prospero Burns before it came out...

Anyway, to answer your question, don't bother bringing models.

Every gamesday I have been too I have not brought any models, generally GW will have games set up with models you can use and if it's a big event they usually have the models, like when baneblades came out they had a super heavy battle and you used there stuff. When i played in the nemesis crown they provided they army,

Gamesday is an all day event it would royally suck lugging all that crap around. Bring a back pack and cash.

Deoderant might as well be optional. You may wear it, but the majority won't, and that much gamer funk will soak into you so deep you'll need a chemical shower to get rid of it.
