Wasn't sure where the best place for this was.

So I'm interested in either using or making rules that would represent a scenario of either fighting in space (surface of a asteroid, planet void of atmosphere, exposed decks of a spaceship etc.) or fighting underwater. Of course both would have movement restrictions and possibly scenario specific hazards and shooting would possibly be affected as well. Does anyone know of any rules that already exist to represent these environments or have any ideas to get me started?

Will do, whenever I get the BRB that is (I know doesn't make sense for someone without the current BRB to be asking for rules ideas but life is weird that way)

If I'm recalling at all correctly, void combat lets jump troops move further, makes all weapons rending, and only allows models that wear helmets or don't need to breathe, like Necrons and Daemons. It's a wacky scenario, so you could probably use your imagination and make up some house rules for it.

I know there's a section on void combat/boarding actions in one of the FW books. I think it was the Badab war or something. It has stuff like weapons count as rending against all units except ones with "void hardened" armor, (2+ or a special rule).

Then how do you play SoB or IG?
I don't think there's enough respirators on the IG sprue.

You buy more or make more.

Which makes the DKoK and Steel legion happy campers.

As for the SOBs, use the helmets from their elites.

I think that's the idea, you can't. Only specially trained troops would be deployed in that environment, and generally you would create a scenario specifically for no atmosphere with it's own rules and objectives, the IG could field karskins or storm troopers as they have helmets. But you just wouldn't deploy massed infantry.

As amusing as it would be to see a mob of boyz all flash freeze and float off into oblivion as they run out an airlock.

Space does not work that way.

Well this has all definitely given me food for thought, and to be honest I never even thought of how Orks would fight void battles. I'm picturing a combination of Storm Boyz and Commandos.

Any mention of vehicles in those rules? I know there is fluff of Land Raiders being used underwater and I'm sure walkers would be fine but I don't know about skimmers. In void combat they might work but I don't think they'd function that well underwater. Though I'm sure with a little imagination some could be adapted (submersible land speeder anyone?)

When Orks fight in space they ram their ships into their enemies ships so hard that the hulls fuse together and there are no gaps. When holes do appear, they plug them with smaller ships. When holes appear in those they plug them with explosives until the hole is beg enough for a bigger ship.

Ork ships themselves are only airtight because the Orks think they should be.

Basically, Orks don't need no masks like punny 'umans!

Rule#1: Before starting the battle, remove all models without a space suit. This includes almost all IG, almost all orks and almost all NCOs and COs of Space Marines. All vehicles that are not anti-grav nor flyers are considered immobile

What you do is challenge a Tyranid player to a game then inform them you win as not one of his models has a helmet. heh heh gribblies go POP.

Overheating is a bigger problem in space than the cold. You can only radiate heat in vacuum of space and that's very inefficient. That's why vacuum thermoses are so good.

Orks actually aren't bothered that much by the void of space. They just pinch their nose shut and "swim" to the opposing side's ship where the fighting's at.

Tyranids don't generally breathe, period. Or have biomorphs bred to not-breathe for spaceborn combat, which the Hive has encountered countless times by this point.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

I'd just put burnaboy masks on the Orkz and call it a day. Or maybe tiny clothes clips.

Partly, but remember that what also helps thermos flasks is that the main body of the thermos is also radiating back at the inner flask at a heat flux that isn't that far away from the inner flask. In deep space or in shadow there is nothing else radiating at whatever just left the airlock.

Fun fact: Nids can adapt themselves to survive in a vacuum. How do you think their ships can travel?

Because their ships are specially designed Tyranids!

Rule#2 for space: Every time you shot a projectile weapon, move your troop for full range in the opposite direction.

Rule#2 for subaquatic: Flamers don't work. To model reduced projectile speed, all models targeted by projectile weapons get an extra FNP save in addition any save they already have. All movement is reduced by half.

Yep. So it should be no surprise that a hormagant could walk around unaffected in space.

I'm pretty sure Tyranids do breath, if I remember right one of the diagrams in the Ordos Xenos book showed a Tyranid disection with an organ labelled lungs.

Be cool if the nids hada symbiotic creature the inhaled their exhaled waste (whatever that gas may be) and exhaled a gas which the Tyranids breath. Kind of like an organic rebreather
