Here are some shots of my (mostly finished) recent Tau stuff.

I really liked the Riptide. This guy was really fun to assemble, pose and paint.

The commander was also fun to paint; but not fun to clean, assemble and pose (finecast issues)

The broadside was a breeze to put together, but wasn't as modular or poseable as I'd like.

The hammerhead and devilfish (with armored core weapon pack) were also excellent kits.

The tetra and devilfish are cute, and their intermediate size tempers the army's presentation.

Last up is a smattering of infantry. I really like the XV15 suits, but they are metal (or finecast) and not as easy to deal with as the plastic options.

And finally, a parting shot for scale comparison:

More to come later!

Nice clean paint scheme, Tau seem to look best in grey, funnily enough. I'm going to pretend that's the reason why I've never painted my own army.

That commander in particular looks pretty good. I haven't seen too many Finecast commanders yet but that's a nice, dynamic pose you got him in. From looking at the kit I assumed the model had practically no poseability, guess I was wrong...or I'm not willing to do the work necessary to do it. One of the two.

All I can say is that the colors are amazing, excellent color of blue for the misc. things. I also love the gloss finish on the black sections of the vehicles.

Wow, these are really awesome mate, the black, white and grey make for some good blending colours, there's not too much contrast between them, and it makes for a great model, and the blue works really well as a spot colour ;D Those battlesuit heads look awesome by the way, they kinda remind me of the little orb thing from halo, but square with the Tau ear things ^_^

What did you use as the heads for the suits? The head on the ripetide looks so much better than the one that comes with the model.

Thanks for the kind words guys!

Re: How did you convert up the battlesuit heads?

I thought the helmets in the kit were too small, so I greenstuffed a slightly larger one (inspired by the sloped forgeworld helmets). The ears were taken from other bits in the kit. The riptide eye-lens was also from the kit I think (maybe some sort of spotlight)?

Re: I haven't seen too many Finecast commanders yet ... I assumed the model had practically no poseability

You are right. Posing the finecast commander was not fun, and not something I'm looking to repeat. Cutting into the finecast always makes me nervous, and I had to do some greenstuff patchwork to reassemble the knee and shoulder joints.

Re: I also love the gloss finish on the black sections of the vehicles.

Thanks! Gloss varnish is a funny thing. I've found that, for me, gloss-varnish looks good on about 1/2 - 2cm strips (from table-top height). Anything smaller or larger looks funny to me. That's why I didn't gloss-up the engine-exhausts/intakes on the suits (too small), and I didn't want to to gloss up the riptide because I wanted him to match the others.

Thanks again for all the support! I'll post the flyer and some of my other stuff (e.g., hazard suit) when I get a chance!

Lovely painting all round: great job and a really nice colour scheme.

Really like your changes to the Riptide; the larger head, fluid pose and extra gun is a massive, massive improvement IMHO.

"As I recall, your face was tortured. Imagine that - the Master of the Wolves, his ferocity twisted into grief. And yet you still carried out your duty. You always did what was asked of you. So loyal. So tenacious. Truly you were the attack dog of the Emperor. You took no pleasure in what you did. I knew that then, and I know it now. But all things change, my brother. I'm not the same as I was, and you're... well, let us not mention where you are now."

Brilliant scheme and lovely painting - interesting to compare the plastic riptide and the finecast commander, I've noticed that finecast leaves a grainy finish on the paintjob, compared to your riptide which is smooth as an oiled peanut. That's why I never buy finecast

Awesome.
Super clean, and nice pop with the blue.
I really like that you made the suits in dynamic poses, especially the Commander.
Great job!

Paint scheme is so clean! The clear bases is a strange touch but it fits perfectly with the crispness of the models!

Looks really nice, might have to try that riptide head idea, theres a piece in the broadside kit the same sort of shape.

Love the color scheme. The grey/white/blue has a winter camo feel to it (which is my fav).

Painting is clean and crisp, good shading.

Excellent work.

I don't play Tau but if I ever do this would likely become a point of reference.

Love the paint scheme on these! I really just dislike the heads, though. I'm personally a fan of the heads that come with the kits, so these just look funky and out of place to me.

And bravo with that Commander! I HATE the way that model goes together, but my conversion-fu is weak, so I'm suffering with the mediocre posing of the model.

Really nice scheme for your army. I think tau pull off the 'clean' look better than most and I love the sharp lines on your vehicles.

I'll admit, there are some things I don't like about it. The tan skinned tau, the giant eye heads on the suits.

But that's personal preference. You did a great job with it regardless.
