I was just wondering what else could/should i get for the rest of my necron army.
i have a necron battleforce (which contains a ghost/doomsday ark, 5 scarab bases, 20 necron warriors and 5 immortals/deathmarks) and i recently picked up a necron lord with a ressurrection orb. what else do i need to start an army good for a tournament.

More Immortals the flyers and ghostarks.

Generally, think about adding:

a) Annihiliation barges. They are excellent for the points, and the kit provides you with an overlord model as well.
b) Some form of anti CC. So, wraiths are the best CC unit we have - but expensive to buy as you need 2 boxes to make a decent unit. Alternatively, get more scarabs (i got some off Ebay), and support with Spyders.
c) Deathmarks and immortals are good. In order to get the most out of the box, you can actually make both the immortals and the deathmarks if you have some spare warrior legs and chests. In fact, if you haven't built your warriors yet, try this trick and build deathmarks and immortals out of the battleforce.
d) Get a couple of scythes. They are good delivery systems for all sorts of units.
e) Buying a lychguard/Praetorian box is well worth it - the bits in there make excellent crypteks (again on warrior bodies). I made Sword and Board Lychguard out of mine, but interweb would say use warscythes.

thanks for both your feedback. there is one slight problem. i hve a very low budget as i only have $75 left and i wanna spend it wisely. the trick with the immortals and deathmark i tried to do but didnt seem to work out, plus my warriors are assembled an ready for painting. one more thing, im constructing an ark, bur which one? doomsday or ghost ark?

Generally, for tournaments, interweb settled on wraithwing or CronAir.

If you are in NZ, and are buying new, you aren't going to get either of those for $75 bucks. Wraithwing needs min12 to 18 wraiths, CronAir 5+ scythes.

However, they aren't they only builds that go well. What armies are you going to be playing generally and can you get hold of stuff cheaply? Are you comfortable with eBay?

You aren't going to be getting into any tournaments with that and $75 worth of anything else.

You should be able to get one box of Wraiths or a Night Scythe for $75 on Ebay or from most independent stores that stock 40k. That's a good place to start.

For the Ark, you could magnetise it pretty easily, but if you don't want to, I find the Doomsday Ark to be far more helpful but that just might be my play style.

If you can't/don't want to magnetize the Ghost ark , might be better because it can regenerate warriors.

Doomsday could be better as it is heavy support.

What points level are you aiming for?

The acknowledged "good units" that most everyone will agree on is the Wraiths and the Night Scythes. Doom Scythe might get more debate but is also good.

I think style of play plays a big part and its always tough to tell you where to spend money FIRST but I wouldn't invest in Ghosat Arks first. You'll find it plenty easy to play without them.

Thinking about it, I think an Anni Barge is the best place to start. Then you should think about playing 750pt to 1000pt games.

Here's a sample list, assuming you built immortals and bought an Anni Barge (which will give you the extra overlord model).

Comes to 1025 points. Not near my codex so not sure if Trazyn comes back as a Immortal. Trazyn and his obliterator are your counter attack unit. If not, use the below.

The idea with the second list is to provide a bit more protection for Imotekh, who will be your warlord.

for $75 you should shop on ebay to start. if youre only wanting to buy from your local gaming store then you cant go wrong with more warriors/immortals. someday youll need at least 40 warriors and 20 or more immortals for bigger games if you like troops vs mech lists.

i just got a bundle of stuff on ebay for $100, this is what i got. 2x catacomb barges, 1x ghost/doomsday ark, warriors and destroyers, all unassembled and pieces are all there.

i also have a mate who showed me some good tactics and he's going to give me some stuff to help out and help me with my army too. im going to aim of making my arming use the royal court and ill build up 2-3 crypteks with any spare bits or make them if i get some lychgaurds or something based around that.
