So was having a little think around and decided that Space Marine Captains are at the minute, really there to unlock Bike squads as troops. In most other cases a Librarian is the unit of choice from a competitve standpoint, and for a mere 25pts you can instead have a Chapter Master. Identical but adds Orbital Bombardment.
In any case, seeing as Biker Captains unlock bikes, I thought it would be useful to add a few options to the Captain to expand him as a First Captain, or an 8th Company captain, and also expand the attached Command squad. I also though it would be cool to do somethi.g similar to Sammael and give him a buffed Land Speeder to represent him as a 7th Company, who are trained to deploy as all LS.
So here is my proposals
Add te following options
A Captain may purchase one of the following
Purchase the "Regent of the Chapter" special rule 65pts
In a Primary Detachment containing a Regent of the Chapter, you may select Sternguard Veteran Squad and Terminator Squad as a Troop Choice as well as an Elite choice. Vanguard Veterans may be taken as Troops as well as Fast Attack. In addition, a Regent of the Chapter gains the Heroic Intervention special rule, and doesn't prevent a Vanguard veteran unit he has joined from Assaulting using the rule, although if there is another character without the rule in the unit, they still may not assault.
May take a Captain's Land Speeder 40pts
A Captain's Land Speeder is treated as a Land Speeder taken from the fast attack section with the following changes
- He has an frontal AV of 12
- He may not take Typhoon Missile Launcher
- He is treated as having Skilled Rider
- A Captain's Land Speeder doesn't benefit from the Independent Character special rule and as it is a vehicle, the Combat Tactics Special rule
May become a "Master of Relics" +35pts
A Master of Relics, when selected as a part of a Primary Detachment, allows Devastator Squads to be taken as troops. A Master of Relics is also equipped with a Signum and gives a unit he has joined the Split Fire rule. A Master of Relics may not select a Bike or Jump Pack.
May replace Power Armour and his Bolt Pistol and/or Chainsword with Scout Armour, a Stalker Pattern Boltgun and Camo Cloak 15pts
* A Captain in scout armour may not take a Jump Pack but may still ride a bike
Gain the following special rules
Lord Executioner
in a Primary Detachment containing a Captain with Jump Pack, Assault Squads become troop choices.
Master of Recruits
If a Captain is wearing scout armour, Scouts may be selected as Elites as well as Troops, and Scout Bikers may be taken as Heavy Support. If he is also mounted on a Bike, you may also take Scout Bikes as Troops. This only applie if the Captain is part of your Primary Detachment.
And finally changes to the Command Squad
Space Marine Command Squad........115pts
You may select 1 Command Squad as part of your army for every Space Marine Captain you take, including Cato Sicarius, Darnath Lysander, Kayven Shrike and Kor'sarro Khan. This unit does not count towards your HQ allowance.

*A Company Champion in Terminator armour instead has a Storm Shield and Relic Blade
If the Captain has been upgraded to have Scout Armour, the Command squad may exchange their power armour for Scout Armour and a Camo Cloak ...Free
If the unit does not have Terminator Armour, the unit may ride Space Marine Bikes...90pts
If the unit does not have Terminator Armour, the unit may have Jump Packs....90pts
If the Captain is a Regent of the Chapter, the squad may take Special Issue Ammunition for 2pts per model
If the Captain is a Regent of the Chapter, the Squad may exhange all their wargear (except the Narthecium) for Terminator Armour, Stormbolters and Power Weapons. An Apothecary may have either a Power Weapon or Stormbolter....90pts
Model Options
Any Veteran may replace his Chainsword and/or Bolt Pistol with
-Stormbolter........3pts
-Flamer.................5pts
-Meltagun............10pts
-Combiweapon...10pts
-Plasmagun, Power Weapon or Lightning Claw.....15pts
- Powerfist...........25pts
-Thunder Hammer....30pts
Any Veteran may replace his Bolt Pistol with
-Plasma Pistol......15pts
Any Veteran May take the following
-Melta Bombs
Stormshield
If wearing Terminator Armour, any Veteran may exchange his Stormbolter with
-Combiweapon...................................5pts
-Lightning Claw.................................10pts
-Thunder Hammer or Relic Blade...20pts
If Wearing Terminator Armour, any Veteran may replace his power weapon with
-Lightning Claw....5pts
-Power Fist or Storm Shield....10pts
-Thunder Hammer or Chainfist...15pts
One Veteran may exchange his Stormbolter for
-Heavy Flamer..........5pts
-Assault Cannon......30pts
-Or take a Cyclone Missile Launcher...30pts
Just some fluffy stuff to allow play of 1st Company, 7th Company, 8th Company, 10th Company, or any chapter that specialises in Assault Marines, Terminators, Sternguard, Scouts or Land Speeders.

It's a good concept, but you really need to flesh it out. At the moment, for example, a Command Squad that takes Terminator Armour would still have their old weapons, which means they'd still be able to take Plasma Guns or Meltaguns, and the Apothecary would still give them FNP. Otherwise it's a pretty common suggestion and has much merit.

Make special issue ammunition way cheaper for the Command Squad; no one's gonna pay 41 PPM for worse Sternguard. I'd actually say theyshould get it for free; they're already the same cost as Sternguard and while they get an Apothecary they don't have the option to take Combi-Weapons. Also, make the SIA work with the Storm Bolters of the Terminator Armour option.
You may want to add Vanguard Veterans as a Troops option to the First Company Captain, even though they're rather gakky. It feels more complete that way.

Vanilla marine command squads should not have Jump packs, that is a BA thing that really should stay with them.
Scout captains is a really good idea and I know a fair few people that would love it
and a terminator captain should only make one unit of Terminators or sternguard troops, i know the bikes work differently but terminators are a new kettle of fish entirely

I'm onboard with all but the SIA on Terminator Command Squad. I feel it would be simplier and more linear to keep it just for boltguns. Otherwise you could justify Terminator Squads and Vanguard Vets having it. I think it should remain as a solely Sternguard option, with the option in aa CS representing Sternguard Vets as the Captain's commander group, or nessecity (sp?).
Other than that I like it, although I reckon I may just have to recreate the entire Command Squad entry to accomodate the Terminator Options. Automatically Appended Next Post: Ninja'd by KillerSkivill
I protest at your arguements. The SM codex is used to represent anything that is not a BA, DA or SW chapter or descendent. It is quite possible that there are other, non-BA capters specialising in Jump Packs like Raven Guard for example. Or it could be used to represent a Codex Chapter's Assault Company.
As for the Terninator/Sternguard thing, I had considered it. In the end I came out with the realisation that it prevented someone making a fully 1st Company list, and that prices didn't change. Assault Terminators still reign over the other units and can make great objective campers but will do know damage against a gunline, and you still pay the same points for the units.

Speaking of Dev Squads:
While the Dev Sqd Sgt is alive, the unit has the Skyfire USR (now the Sarge is more than just an ablative wound to protect a heavy weapon).

my only argument for it is that the JP command squad has always been a BA thing and taking it to some other codex's would remove some of the BA's Uniqueness, I would say the same thing about terminator command squads

For me the uniqueness has, and always will be the Flaw. Red Thirst, and Black Rage and accompanying fluff and units including Astorath, Death Company, Sanguinary Priests, Chaplain overloading, etc. Jump Packs are not unique and solely owned by BA. Likewise, the TDA units are.not solely owned by Deathwing. They are unique by their fluff, Deathwing Assault and being 100% Terminator.
Anyway, added the 9th Captain upgrade and redone the entire Command Squad.
