Subject: Land Speeder Vengeance- DA's great gaff?

I was at my local gaming store yesterday and saw one of these on the shelf there. I have been (slowly) building a Ravenwing army, which the vengeance is a part of. Solely using that logic I almost decided to buy the thing. Looking back, I'm happy I didn't. I love the idea of a giant plasma cannon on a land speeder, but the vengeance just doesn't seem worth the trouble. It's got a lot wrong with it, and not a lot going for it.
Pros:
-large blast template plasma cannon
-fast skimmer
Cons:
-2 hull points
-Poor armor
-short range
-the burst mode means you'll be stripping a hull point at least once a game just from shooting
-expensive
-doesn't provide something the rest of the army can't do
Why ever take one? I can't seem to justify both the monetary and point expense on something that will be destroyed from a round of shooting from a tactical squad. I want them to be good. I like the model and the idea, but I can't get around its shortcomings. Has anyone used one? Are they any better in practice than they are on paper?

You do know you get a 4plus save from gets hot on vehicles?. I have used one a few times before, with prescience its a mean old unit! I acutally quite like it to be honest

The Vengeance blows. The Darkshroud, on the other thand, is worth the points when you run Ravenwing. The extra bonus to cover saves is money.

Yes I know of the 4+ save for gets hot. But you said you like it. Care to explain how you run it and get past it's cons I mentioned above? I'd love to field a couple but I can't convince myself to take one

On its own the Darkshroud is gak rather then the gak, when running with a RW army it becomes the gak.
Like I said I have ran it with prescience being cast on it with a combined RW DW army against nids a few times really took it to them being able to drop that much plasma.
Are you asking if its a competitive unit?, then not really as it is still a AV10 skimmer

I feel like these guys flying in from Reserve and dropping a steaming pie of plasma on something you need dead their best use.
Other than that, use a Vindi.

Oh definitely, but it's a great force multiplier for RW.

Burst Mode sucks. The pie plate is where it is at. O if Forgefiends could get a pie plate.

Fluff wise they are pretty bad ass, but they're still only AV 10. If only they had that eldar ability that let them shoot and move flat out XD that would be so epic.
