Even the original intent of the law was stupid. I mean, banning internet cafes because they might be used for on-line gambling? Isn't that like banning tables because people might play poker on them?

To put a certain interpretation on the matter... Tables aren't used by immigrants to get information and communicate with their distant families.

Being an outsider I'm not that familiar with the nuances of US politics but I was always under the assumption that the Republican party was anti state interference and pro small business. Legislation that shuts down 1000 cafes strikes me as curiously at odds with that. If they are so concerned with people using internet cafes to gamble there are surely easier ways to deal with that issue.

There must be some other agenda here. Either that or incompetence on a grand scale.

I believe the Republicans are pro big business, not pro small business. I could be wrong though.

I really don't get the hate for Florida, all of your old people come here to die, it can't be that bad.

If this has anything to do with shutting down gambling its because we just had a huge problem with "veterans posts" that were basically loop holes that allowed Internet slot machines, they usually have a lot of homeless people and drunk people who stand around outside drinking. They shut those down pretty quick but there's always someone with a loop hole.

The elderly population of Florida rejoices...until they realize the government will make it so the only place to get end of the year tax booklets and tax forms is online.

After having lived in Florida for a few years as a Carpet-bagger I still don;t understand why we actually fought a couple of bloody wars with the Seminole Indians for it.

Especially back before A/C it was probably a hellhole, and is now just a hellhole with A/C.

The republican party is anti interference unless it pertains to gambling, abortion, gay marriage or any of another dozen social issues they've glommed onto like barnacles to get the religious vote.

The Republican Party is pro corporate-government oligarchy, anti worker and civil liberties.

The Democratic Party is pro government-corporate oligarchy, anti small business and civil liberties.

They are completely different, so pick the right side already and stop complaining!
