I am not sure which army to choose. I like the DE because their twisted background but I like Orks because their customization, ie looted vehicles and rambled bits. Also I am unsure about their play style on both. I know Orks go in massive legions and DE hit hard and fast. Please help. I have a list of current armies in my sig below.

I really like DE (have a friend who plays them) and I've have yet to play Orks, so take this with a grain of salt. I really like DE models as well as play style. I play DW so I'm slow where my friend is fast. It fun to see the difference, but back to the OP, I would go with DE. Cool background, models, and play style.. I hope I helped.

I play both. Orks rely on massive numbers of infantry and of vehicles. Nothing is individually very potent, but in large quantities they are. They act as a steam roller, building up momentum and rolling over the enemy with lots of bodies, average strength shooting, poor accuracy, and lots of shots. The trick is keeping your momentum going long enough to win the game. Once orks start to lose a foothold mid to late game, they tend to crumble. They are very fun, everyone seems to enjoy seeing them on the TT, and they are pretty forgiving overall.

Dark Eldar play very differently in most ways. They are the most fragile army in the game, but also the fastest. They have very potent weapons and some good CC units too, but they have very weak armor and low toughness.DE want to hit hard and fast, focusing their entire attention on sections of the enemy's army in order to disable them early game. DE tend to win big or lose big, and never in the middle. This contrasts with orks who often narrowly win or lose. They are one of the hardest armies to play, but don't let that stop you just prepare to lost a lot at first. They are both very cool armies with great models. I find DE harder to paint well though. PM me if you have any questions on either army.

you are looking at completely different races here.

I dont know much about DE but i know theyre nothing like orks. Orks want numbers over anything. In most codexes, getting a couple units of something might be very advantagous but not for orks unless you get a bunch of them.
Also you have to remember both are very old codexes. DE far as i know are almost never seen alone because of their holes in the codex (usually its Eldar with DE allies) but orks do fine on their own.

My complaints about orks, since thats what i play most of the time. Our units that actually are viable only have 1 way to be used that works, so if you are trying to be competitive youre severely limited on what to do. Having fun, you got millions of choices. They also arent that cost effective anymore so unless theyre Green Tiding it (which, boyz are still one of the best infantry point for point in the game btw) they usually only outnumber their opponent by 15-25 models...which isnt that much considering most of the non-ork versions of what you brought are typically way better and harder to remove.
The Looted Wagon you mentioned is a prime example of this. Its ~35 give or take points cheaper than a LRBT, cannot be in squadrons while LRBT can be, has HALF the range, and is AV11/11/10 instead of 14/13/11 (or is it 14/12/11? i forget) which is huge. If the Looted Wagon had the armor, i'd be fine since thats hard to punch without being in your opponents throat exposing your sides, but AV11 dies to everything and lacks the range to try and avoid it (even 48" would be fine). However, ive seen some EPIC looted wagons since its the epidome of orkifying something...orks are purely for fun lol

I play nothing but Orks, and my main opponent is Dark Eldar of all things.

He's better than I am, yet I win well over 50% of our games. Dark Eldar are brutally unforgiving thats for sure.

One thing though, that stuff about "Orks are always hordes" isn't the case. Sure, they're usually hordes, but they can do elite, they can do dreadbash, they can run an Armoured Krumpany, all sorts of stuff. A Nob Biker list can be as low as 22 models I believe at 1500 pts, without vehicles.

Yup, but those 22models are melee monsters, fast as hell, and without heavy flamers very hard to take out unles you get lucky. So its viable.

I dunno if I'd say an all Nob Biker list is the most 'viable' list we've got, but its certainly not rubbish and it shows that Orks don't need to take hordes

We can also do a Deathwing type list with 2+ and AV 14

Don't be so humble, sounds like you're better than him!
I say DE. Both Orks and DE can be a lot of fun, but DE aren't as popular, although they are unforgiving as I've painfully learned.

Here's to me in my sober mood,
When I ramble, sit, and think.
Here's to me in my drunken mood,
When I gamble, sin, and drink.
And when my days are over,
And from this world I pass,
I hope they bury me upside down,
So the world can kiss my ass!

I play to have lots of fun and winning is only an added benefit. I play orks, they are just too.... fun! What other army can rolling double 1's blow you up and everything within d6" what other weapon can double 6s kill everything under a large template? None its all for da orkz! I enjoy seeing my opponent watch in horror as my nob squad charges in with 3PKs, a war boss with PK, 4 Big Choppas and one pain boy, that’s a lot of attacks with high strength and WS 5 using a WAAAGH banner. I can’t say anything about DE But if you goal is to have a lot of fun and roll MOAR dice, look no farther then da ladz.

I guess it depends on what you plan to do with your army.

Do you want to paint them to your best ability?

Do you just like assembling fun kits? Are you going to be competitive with them?

For painting and competitiveness I'd go with DE.

For a massive painting and building project go Orks.

I had collected both. I still have the Orks (my slow "pro" painting project) but I sold the DE.

I went with Eldar instead (before we were even sure they were getting a codex) and use them as my competitive/easy mode painting army.

Thanks everyone. You all really helped me make my decision. WAAAGH!!! It is. I play CSM, GK, and Tau. I don't need an OP army just a really fun one and Orks sound....well fun. Thanks again all for your comments!
