Don't have the points for both (seriously, I've stripped my list down to the minimum), what do you recommend? If you could only take one, which would it be and why?

Both!!!!
Well if you really cant find the point
Flyboss if you are planning on using it for anit air.
Shoota if you are planning on using it on the ground.
Now if you are planing for both I would think the 3ed shoota would be best.

extra supa shooter.

Think of it this way. Its only +1BS against skimmers and other fliers, and does nothing against the rest.
The additional 3 shots will usually make you come out even since theyre TL as well in comparison most of the time, but the additional shots will also wreck nonskimmers/fliers harder whereas the Flyaboss wont do anything.

Unless youre against a necron airforce guy, i'd get the supa shoota. Only if you are facing a ton of fliers and/or skimmers should you ever take Flyaboss to begin with let alone over a supa shoota (i never take flyaboss, i usually have 1 target that it affects in any game i play)

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.

On a normal turn of shooting, if you take a flying ace you'll land 4.5 hits on a flyer.
If you take the extra gun, you'll land 5.

So it looks like the gun just wins it.

Of course, if you can free up points for both you can land 6.75...

OK guys... looks like the answer is pretty clear (and thanks Fezman for the math). I'll go with the extra gun and in future lists... see if I can sneak out the extra points for both!

Thanks!

No problem, in my experience I would almost compare them to the experience I have with IG Demolishers - good against their intended targets but that means they draw a lot of fire (and I think with Jets it's because in an Ork army BS3 with a ton of guns bolted on sticks out). But does that mean I've stopped taking either unit? Nope!
