Hi folks, I'm not that up on the black library. I've only read the eisenhorn books and the original HH trilogy. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there are any books that centre around the aftermath of the heresy, and particularly the creation of the Codex Astartes and the division of the legions into chapters?

Thanks in advance

Alan

The HH series is still on its way towards the siege of Terra. Anything else BL has to offer seems younger than the aftermath of the heresy.

But the creation of the codex astartes is already covered in the HH series. I'd suggest to search for : Imperium secundus.
You'll get a date and a format of the codex and the tests Mr R.G. had his Legion perform to see if it works as intended.

Greetings!

Not a novel, but WD #252 had an article about the Codex Astartes and the transformation into Chapters. I have no idea how or if this ties into the novel series, though, so don't be surprised if there are some contradictions.

In one of the first HH anthologies there's a story about Guilliman forming the codex, and his Ultramarines pretty much playtesting it. I can't recall the name of the book or the story name though.

There is only the Emperor! He is our shield and protector.

Of note is that story happens before news of the Heresy broke out. Roboute points out that he expects some of the other legions to be pissed when they find out his plans for the Codex Astartes.

Of course, then the Heresy happened and gave him a really convenient excuse for it. That was just a fortunate coincidence (Fortunate for the Codex Astartes, that is. Pretty sure Gulliman would have preferred the Heresy never happened though considering what it did to the Imperium).
