Subject: About Farsight's Dawnblade

 |
Frightening Flamer of Tzeentch

The entry about Farsight's disappearance is vague about what exactly attacks him and kills the ethereals with him, and my friend and I were having a friendly debate. Keep in mind, both of us have a broad understanding of lore as a whole, but nothing super specific. But to us it seems like it's either a forgotten Daemon world or an Eldar craftworld, which would make the Dawnblade either a Daemon weapon or some sort of Eldar weapon. Can anyone provide some clarity around these events or are they left intentionally vague?

I thought it was a Necron Tomb World. Or, heavily implied that it was. (That is in the last codex, though, I haven't read the new stuff)

This is GW fluff.
If it doesn't result in "Space Marines are awesome" it wont mean anything
Personally, I think it looks like a Warscythe blade

I think the Sword looks very Necron too, but do Necrons have the ability to teleport at will?

Most likely a forgotten Daemon World as per the new fluff in the sample of the Farsight Supplement on the iBooks store.

Yes, they can phase out back to the Tomb complex at will.

Up until the new supplement is released, everything that happened to Farsight and his Ethereals was pretty vague.
Teasers of the new Farsight book imply Arthas Moloch was a chaos world, but GW has doctored old art of the dawnblade to make it look more like the new model, a Tau power weapon, not an artifact.
So, the new fluff will be very revealing.

Tbh the old Dawnblade looked much better. The new 'Farsight' is wielding something more akin to the Dawnbutterknife...

The creatures that attack him are Daemons of Chaos, the Dawn Blade is perhaps a relic of the Old Ones.
As Kroothawk said, the book/ipad isn't far off and should answer these questions... hopefully... maybe.

I had figured that is was a tomb world, but the assailants were Eldar, prob trying to bring about some means to an end to ensure Farsight was bound to the path he is on now... AKA, killing the ethereals. I doubt necrons would specifically target all of them. Or use hit and run tactics

I've always assumed that Farsight took control of the Dawnblade and that freed him of the Ethereals influence and then he made sure they had an accident or didn't get the back up in battle and were killed.

He doesn't kill Ethereals, ever =P he just realized that they are keeping the Tau Empire ignorant and not telling them the full truths of reality (like the Warp and Chaos). Farsight feels as though he can't return to being a part of the Tau Empire while knowing all of these things. I personally think the Dawn Blade is an Old One relic and it would seem like Arthas Moloch was a chaos world that was sealed by maybe the Old Ones? With those medallions.

Source? Or just personal invention?
I thought he just wants to massacre his enemies without anyone telling him that it is amoral.

I thought it was just a excuse to have "rebel" Tau for all those counter culture types , and to give a plausible reason to have tau vs. tau battles.

"Chronophagic" sounds like some whizz-bang Necron tech, though the design of the weapon isn't so straight-line angular like Necron tech often is.

I always harbored the Necron angle myself, especially since the old Dawnblade design had a distinct Khopesh sword look to it, but meh, it could be Necron, or oldone, or vanished boyscout troop #5 tech, but at anyrate we know now, in fluff it is the same O'shovah, and the dawnblade makes him live indefinitely, shame its not reflected on the table top, with it regening wounds on somesuch.

You take a couple milliseconds longer to die that you would have otherwise, as that was all the time that you had left.

Wait, Farsight has killed Orks, which IIRC are functionally immortal, only trauma can kill them (And perhaps particularly nasty diseases).
Would that not make Farsight functionally immortal?

Not if it is something of a destiny-perceiving effect. While an Ork might be biologically immortal, most of them die by ork-on-ork violence. The effect might be able to predict how long it was going to be until that particular ork was going to meet its end.

The text specifies the stolen span is "natural".
I would prefer a sort of timestream-dependent variation of this ability, but that does not appear to be the case.
