Ok recently I was in a Gauntlet mood, so I went to play my copy of the game. I quickly found that both it, and Dark Legacy, no longer worked, I set out on an epic quest to find new copies of both of the games. Not only did I manage to find new copies of both games for a decent price, I also found a copy of Gauntlet Seven Sorrows. Since I hadn't played Seven Sorrows yet, I popped it in and...this sums up what I ran into (I apologize for the sound quality, I had to jury rig a mic):

After posting that tirade, I finally calmed down enough to replay the original Gauntlet, as well as Dark Legacy. I quickly found that neither of them was nearly as fun as I remembered. Did the Gauntlet series really age that poorly, or is it just me?

Me and my friends still play Guantlet Dark Legacy on ps2 and gamecube all the time. It's one of the greatest games ever imo. I just love the hack and slash and the whole "red wizard needs food badly" announcer . Great game. I've beaten it loads of times and still love it.

I have the midway arcade version of the original guantlet, and that one is quite fun as well, if very old. I also have 2 and 3 for the original gameboy. I really didn't like seven sorrows..... So bad...

It lost the fun of the originals and was a bit different in gameplay. So I didn't like it

But Legacy for N64 and Dark Legacy for Ps2 are great!
And in my opinion (because I don't play shooters) have aged just fine. The graphics aren't very good, but if they were better, it wouldn't be guantlet

Also, I find most of the fun of Gauntlet is lost if you're not playing with friends. It's just not the same playing it by yourself.

Gauntlet for the 64 was Legends. I have it, and it's my favorite 64 game. Conkers BFD comes in second, followed by SSB, Perfect Dark and the bits I remember of Rogue Squadron.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

True... Maybe I should try to find someone to play it with.

If this is the Gauntlet I remember on the Spectrum, we assigned both characters to the same joystick, and played them both solo. Getting them both through the door in time got messy.
