An odd question concerning infiltrator deployment.

I played a battle last night with hammer and anvil deployment where my opponent deployed all the way up to the line, leaving a good 16" or so clear behind him,

If I had infiltrators, could I place them in open ground behind at the 12" mark or are troops considered to have a 360 degree viewing radius?

Good question, it says draw line of site from the models eyes. But I think it then says that infantry can turn to shoot.

To me it would make overwatch more tactical as you could use jump troops to jump over their line and charge the rear, or launch flank attacks from cover etc. Basically tactics that don't involve running at a gun with nothing but a spoon!

They're considered to have 360 degree field of you. If you wanted to, you could play an entire game with your minis facing the wrong way, just the giggles. The only time it'd be a problem is when you're trying to fire fixed weapons on vehicles, that couldn't swivel to point the right way.

My interpretation is that with regards to shooting its 360 degrees of awareness because the rules state in many places that troops turn and shoot (as is the case of overwatch). This means it doesn't matter from which direction you charge a unit, it'll always be towards a gun barrel.

However, my primary question would be as it relates to infiltrators and the 12" vs 18" deployment restrictions.

At this point I have a feeling that this will turn academic and not have a definite answer sadly so I'd probably say 360 even though I cannot find it explicitly stated.

P10, turning and facing, says that the facing of your troops has no effect on their ability to shoot or charge.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

BRB p10, "Turning and Facing": "[T]he direction a model is facing won't impact its ability to shoot or charge into combat later in the turn...."

This indicates that models have a 360d. LoS.
