I've played Imperial Guard, Blood Angels and Sisters of Battle and am looking for a bit more of a challenge. I recently got a read of the Dark Eldar codex and thought I might build a small army of them, for small point friendly games, say 500-750 points. Reading the codex though, Dark Eldar vary considerably from any of my current armies.
What would be a good way to start Dark Eldar? What units are good at low points, and what tactics would work well for them? I would most usually be playing CSM, Tau or Eldar, all updated codexes I know, but these would only be friendly games for fun anyway
Thanks

I would go and get, an Archon and two sets of Kabalite warriors and mount them in raiders to start. Maybe get the battle force if you like the Wyches but seeing how 6ed favors shooting Kabalies seem to be the better option.

A very solid roughly 650 pt army would be:

1x Archon
10x kabilite warriors + raider
10x kabilite warriors + raider
1x ravager

From there you could add another ravager, trueborn in a venom, incubi in a venom to accompany archon and more troops (perhaps wracks).

Where would archon go? He wont want him just waiting around to give up warlord point will he.

The most amazing unit in the codex in the very uninspiring venom with extra venom cannon. Shooting out 12 poison shots a turn for a very cheap cost. I know lots of people who don't see troops as units, but as a scoring upgrade for a venom! A good 500pt list is

HQ
Haemonculus, Liquefier (60pt Wrack Tax)
Troops
2 x 3 wracks (30pts)
In Venoms with extra cannons + chain snares (70pts)
Heavy Support
Ravager w/ nightfields (120pts)
Ravager w/ nightfields (120pts)

Incredibly powerful list at low levels which will obliterate most armies in a matter of turns. Chain snares are there for fun, 'cause I just love the idea of causing damage while re-deploying to the other side of the table!
