You scored some very good melee items, that much is for certain. The third picture from the top is Fenris, who provides awesome abilities (along with his own monstrous melee prowess) to Doom Reavers, who as luck would have it are what you are showing in the sixth picture. You also seem to have the epic version of Orsus Zoktavir (the guy with the sweet looking axe in the fourth picture down, who if I'm not mistaken is a warcaster who is excellent with melee infantry (keep in mind I don't play Khador, so I'm just going on what I've heard).
The guy standing next to the Zoktavir with the pipes is Rhupert Carvolo, and he can provide some strong buffs to units that he runs along with (such as the Doom Reavers). The dog in the same picture is a warcaster attachment who works as a decent bodyguard (although his name is escaping me at the moment). The guy in pieces in the same picture is the epic version of Irusk, although admittedly I don't know a whole lot about him.
You also have some Widowmakers in the second pic, and they are great as support for melee since they usually have a fairly easy time picking off solos and other light units that stray a bit too far away from the pack.
I'm not sure on the rest of the models, but I know I've seen the ones I've identified used quite effectively. As far as I can tell you've gotten a pretty decent starting base. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, and the guys at the bottom are battle mechaniks. They can repair things and can make for some easily sacrificed melee fodder in a pinch. At times (especially against other support units) they can even make a reasonably good melee unit (when backed up by a 'jack), although their big draw is the repair ability.

bbb wrote:Hi all, I picked up some Khador items at an auction and could use some help sorting them out as I'm not familiar with Warmachine at all. What I'd like to know are: what are these, do I have enough models for minimum sized units at least, does this collection make a good starting point for getting into Warmachine with Khador. If so what should I plan to purchase to round out some 15-35 point lists? -Warcaster Zerkova lying down on the far right. - Warcaster pSorcha (Kommander Sorcha) second from the right. - I think the one in the center is the warcaster pIrusk (Kommandant Irusk)? - The one with the staff second from the left is the Greylord Escort (a Unit Attachment for the Doom Revers). - Don't recognize the one on the far left A unit of widowmakers (4 is a complete unit). Don't know about the guy lying down, perhaps he's the Widowmaker Solo... This is a Dragoon Character called Fenris. Once he's killed on his horse, he becomes the foot version. Warcaster eButcher ("Kommander Orsus Zoktavir") on back left Wardog in the centre back (Solo warcaster attachment). Rhupert, the piper of Ord (mercenary Solo, but he won't work for Khador, so it's odd it was in the same stash). The pieces at the bottom are eIrusk (Supreme Kommandant Irusk). The Grey Lord Ternion (3 model complete unit) bottom row and I suppose the 4th at the top is the Koldun Lord (Solo) . Doom Revers (6 man, full unit). The Grey Lord Escort in the first picture joins these guys. Battle Mechanics (6 man, full unit). Everything seems complete, assuming there aren't any bits missing on some of the unassembled casters. Check out Here to double check everything: http://privateerpress.com/warmachine/gallery/khador Seems like a good start, though getting a couple of jacks (at least one of the Devestator/Demolisher multi-kits, maybe the Bohemoth?) and a large unit like Winterguard Infantry or Ironfang Pikemen would be good. Did you get anything else with this stash out of interest?

Psssht, yeah, you could just go and fully answer everything like Maddermax... overachiever. *rolls eyes* Automatically Appended Next Post: On a side note, I didn't know Rhupert wouldn't work for Khador. Wonder how I missed that....

Thanks, guys! So it looks like I have a nice selection of warcasters to start. Cool!
I knew I'd have to get some jacks at least, so I'll look into those you mentioned.
This was all I got, but I thought it seemed like it should be enough to start with.

I understand that the 'e' in eButcher stands for Epic, but what does the 'p' in pSorcha stand for?
Any suggestions for what warcaster and units I should take from the above in a 15ish point list to learn the game? I'll probably need to proxy a jack or to to start.

p = prime. So Kommander Sorscha, not Forward Kommander Sorscha.
In terms of 15 points to learn the game, Sorscha's not a bad one to learn with since she has a good set of neat unit buffs, debuffs and assassination tricks.
As for units to play with to get a feel for things....Honestly, I would say try to snag a cheap set of the Khador plastics from the 2-player box-set off ebay or something.
It'll start you off with two of the basic 'jacks as well as a unit of MoW that have an okay mix of shooting, armor, and melee.

Any suggestions for what warcaster and units I should take from the above in a 15ish point list to learn the game? I'll probably need to proxy a jack or to to start. the p stands for Prime - the first version of a model is called the Prime version, other versions of the character are Epic versions - and there can be more than one! Since the last Warmachine release, there have been some 3rd versions of a few casters, so we now tend to say there's pKreoss, Kreoss2 and Kreoss3 (as an example), but old habits die hard, so eKreoss is often used instead of Kreoss2. Note that Epic versions aren't any more powerful than normal, they're just an alternate take on the model from a different point in the storyline. Honestly, I'd proxy the Khador Battlebox to learn with, which is just pSorcha, a Destroyer and a Juggernaught, and play it against other battle box forces. It's a good intro to the very basics of the game. After that, add on the Widowmakers to get to 15points, and try a few more games. That's just to get used to the actual way the game works, so if you're playing an opponent, make sure they know you're very new and looking for a battlebox game (or a battlebox game +4 points). After that, you'll be in a better position to understand how everything works and can start making more lists. For general info, outside of a few casters, Khador doesn't generally like that many jacks - it's casters don't generally don't have the focus to support more than a couple at a time (though pButcher and Kharchev can handle a fair few), so don't go crazy buying lots of jacks to start with (there are some setups which have a fair few jacks, but it's best to get a handle on the game first before trying to make them ). There are two multi-kits available for Khador jacks, the Juggernaut/Destroyer/Decimator kit and a Spriggan/Devastator/Demolisher kit - each comes with one chassis but multiple arms/heads to set them up as a particular jack. If you get one of each and Magnatize them (there are instructions/tutorials on how to do it on youtube), you can choose which Jacks you want each time. The Behemoth, meanwhile, is a character proto-type jack and is pretty awesome, and a lot of Khador players really like him - not necessary to start with, just letting you know for later. Also, while all your stuff is good, you mostly have smaller support and specialist units, so a good front line tarpit like Winterguard or Ironfangs is a good idea - they go in front, take the brunt of the enemy damage while the rest of your models move up and get into position, and then your specialist units go to town. When you move up to 25points, one of those tarpit units (along with their Officer and Standard) is a good idea. Hope that all helps somewhat

After looking things over I'll definitly get one of the multi-part plastic jacks and magnitize it. I just need to figure out which to get now. If I actually get around to playing and I like the game then I'll expand into the winter guard or iron fang pikemen.

Sounds like a very sensible plan

So I went to my FLPGS, Showcase Comics, and picked up the Decimator/Destroyer/Juggernaught/Marauder kit. While there I saw they had the metal Winter Guard Rifle Corps box and a metal Winter Guard Infantry Rocketeer for 50% off since they were discontinued, so I picked them up.
That should help me along the road to a 35pt force...I hope

Nice, you could already put together a decent force with all that, though I strongly recommend getting the Officer and Standard bearer for your winterguard (they make them seriously good). Now you can have a 25pt list something like:
Caster (Mostly +5 or +6 jack points)
- Destroyer 9
- Wardog 1
Winterguard infantry 6
- U/A 2
- Rocketeer 1
Doom Reavers 6
Widowmakers 4
Widowmaker Marksman (assuming that's what you have) 2
Can't say how effective it would be, but it looks like fun

D'oh!
So how do the Winterguard Rifle Corp compare to the Infantry? I have them now, so I'll just roll with them since I'm still learning, but I'm curious if I should consider the infantry at a later time.
