Subject: Anyone really familiar with Sabol cases? I need help estimating which trays I'll need for my army.

Hi,
I need help determining what army transporter, and what specific trays, to purchase from Sabol. I'm not familiar enough with the limitations of the trays. I'm hoping more experienced users can give me some advice. I'd like to be able to expand up a bit for larger games so if it's a choice between squeezing these into a smaller transport, or going with a larger case that's only 70% full, I'll opt for the latter. Thanks in advance!
My current Tau army consists of the following models:
5 Crisis suits
3 Stealth suits
42 Infantry models (FWs, kroot, pathfinders)
1 Riptide
1 Pirhana
2 Hammerhead chasis
8 shield/gun drones
Sniper drone team with 2 spotters and 7 drones (crisis size base on the spotters, long rifles on the drones)

It's difficult to tell without knowing the size of your models.
The key thing to d is have an idea which combination of trays you'll need - in particular are you going to go for lots of shallow trays (models lying down) or fewer deeper trays (models standing up). All of the trays use 1/2 inch square pluck-foam, with another 1/2 inch around the edge. If you really want to make sure everything will fit you can rough out your storage on paper, though that'll take a fair amount of time.
Looking at your list I'd say you might want several 1" trays for fire warriors and kroot laid flat, 1-2 medium trays for the crisis suits and piranha, and a couple of deep ones for the hammerheads and Riptide. How much space you actually need though is something you have to work out yourself, based on your models.

I have a Tau army in a Sabol case. I use the standard sized case with the following inserts: 4x1"; 2x2.5"; 1x2" All my trays have at least 1 row of blocks between each model You can get 24 fire warriors/pathfinders/XV15s or 32 drones into the 1" tray. You can get 8 crisis suits lying down in the 2" tray. You can get 2 hammerheads/devilfish in a 2.5" tray. Or any kind of partial mix and match thereof. It looks like you would easily be able to fit all your models into the following - 3x1" for the infantry, drones and sniper teams; 1x 2" for the crisis and stealth suits; 1x 2.5" for the hammerheads, leaving just enough space for a 4" tray that should be sufficient for the Riptide and the piranha, assuming the riptide can be dissassembled and laid flat.
