Can we make a Section for X-wing?
Maybe consolidate the current articles from the "Other miniatures games" and post them on thier own ?

The general rule for getting a new forum for a game is that it is so popular it overtakes the forum it currently occupies for some time. 5 threads on the front page of the Misc. Games forum isn't enough.

I had already talked to MajorTom11 about this.

It's been discussed, but as Blap has pointed out, the biggest reason to get a sub-forum is traffic, and right now just isn't happening with X-Wing. We've got 3 to 4 "main" X-Wing threads, and there is currently one that was used to pose a question, as well as a smattering of threads for videos posted by a user that haven't really generated any discussion (the video threads).

I would say if there were 10 sustainable X-Wing threads then we could probably convince the powers that be that an X-Wing subforum is not only potential, but will not be a draw on traffic to the Misc Miniatures boards. Though have a feeling that board gets an inordinate amount of traffic due to the number of Kickstartered threads that have been moved from News and Rumors.

The question I am wondering myself is this...

If I look at other places like FFG's forums, BoardGameGeeks and a few others, there is actually a good bit of activity and given the game's popularity and sales, it stands to reason the players are out there.

What I am wondering is, if there were a dedicated section, in this case, that people could see from the main forum page, would that in turn make people realize there was a place worth posting here and that there was a large group of us playing?

It's the 3rd biggest selling mini game out there right now, behind 40k and warmahordes... the population and interest should be there. Given the amount of content elsewhere, and the level of activity, I am starting to think the only reason there isn't more x-wing chatter here on Dakka is only because people don't think to chatter about it here...

From my point of view, I would. Even if I only had a passing interest in the game, the majority of the community that I have "seen" on BGG have not made it a place that I would want to spend any amount of time there. Most of them are very good at giving their opinions on the games and tend to do know what they are talking about, the issues that I find with BGG is the way in which they express these opinions and views. There seem to be a fair amount less of politeness when it comes to talking about some of these games (any game really). So looking at Dakka vs BGG, I would choose Dakka in a heartbeat, but that's an issue of preference really. When comparing it to the FFG forums, their forums seem to be very proactive and nice, I enjoy lurking there to read about new questions that I might have about the game, and the players are proactive.

With all that being said, I don't think that X-wing is generating enough and diverse traffic to warrant it. It seems to mostly be users like MT11, warboss, timetowaste, occasionally me (because it's currently the new hotness at my store), and so it seems like we might be generating a decent number of posts for the game, but the people contributing is low. If people truly want a sustainable X-Wing community here on Dakka, I think some of the things that should be looked at the YMDC thread, army threads that gain discussion instead of, "Check out this 8 TIE spam" (that everyone already knows about), as well as an actual discussion of tactics, like "what do you feel is the best way to deal with a 2 Firespray list?", things of that nature. And these are just bare minimums.

I think a lot of woes for this idea are stemming because the game is so hard to come by. There is a recent post in the X-Wing Miniatures Game thread where a user says he has ships x, y, and z because his store got a restock, but he still doesn't have the core game. I think if production issues were ever solved it would allow more dakkanauts to pick up this relatively cheap game and start playing.

Despite my interest in the game (and frankly it's been the game I've played most often over the past 10 months), I don't think it has the traffic to support a subforum. MT11 has been a very vocal member of the community (both in terms of visual and text content) and frankly half the threads on the subject would roll of the front page without his efforts as a creative content filled post by him generates conversation for a week.

It feels like its the same core group of about a dozen players going back and forth after the new wave rush dissipates with the occasional new x-wing owner chiming in (usually with the same two comments about lack of product or what they should buy). I don't know if dakka does trial runs of forums but that might be a good thing for mods active in the game to ask lego about (and see how much coding effort it is to add the subforums). Despite my above opinion, I fully admit that there may be a chicken and egg phenomenon going on here specifically with the game.

Maybe Xwing can take over the virtually unused spartan games section.

While I originally thought this to be hilarious, I find it a little sad... there hasn't been a new Spartan Games post in over a month...

Let's just have a "flavor of the month" subforum that we rename every time a new "popular" game comes out. We attract a new member rush to Dakka and by the time the older users realize "their" forum has gone away it's too late and they've already started posting in other subforums. It's genius!

I'd like to see it get it's own section, when the time comes. Not sure if that time is "now", but I feel like it will be pretty soon.

My question is, does Spartan Games still deserve it's own section? Sure, they have a lot of games...that no one plays anymore.

I think their Firestorm Armada models are beautiful. Not sure what it is about them, but all the lines just seem "cleaner" than most models I've seen. I'd totally buy a set of them, to use with another game's ruleset...

i'd like to see the game get its own forum but I dont think its ready for it. The current thread in Misc games while being massive isnt super active. I guess its a chicken or the egg type deal, does it need more threads for its own forum or would its own forum generate more threads?
