I can across this the other day. I had a 5 markerlights on a unit with only my HYMP broadsides in range. So, I used the markerlights to increase my BS to a crazy BS7. But they are twin-linked. How is this resolved? Is the BS 7 usless becuase I am re-rolling the misses anyway, or does it allows me to re-roll my re-roll misses. i.e. I roll 3 1's. So, do I re-roll then again as initial shots(twin-linked s 2+) or do I roll for the BS7 re-roll of 5+ and re-roll the 5+ for twin-linked.
I'm thinking I prob only get 1 re-roll so going past BS 5 is pointless.

Page 5 does put forth the limitation that you are worried about, that you can only re-roll a dice once regardless of the number of special rules granting re-rolls. Without a rule giving you specific permission to re-roll a single dice more then once, you need to obey this restriction and therefore must take the second result as your final result. This restriction likely exists as each re-roll increases the chance of you getting the result you want and if you stacked special rules just right you can almost guarantee success. It is unlikely they wanted a situation where certain combinations of special rules to eliminate the random element of the game completely. As an example lets put the command and control and twin-linked together on a model with a 4+ to hit. Such a model would only fail to hit 12.5% of the time, which is very good hit rate for a BS 3 model. On a model with a BS score of 5, that percentage drops down to somewhere around 2.5%, which is very close to a guaranteed result. This example doesn't even address the fact you could easily get three or four of the things if it wasn't for this restriction. 5 Marker-lights on a BS 5 model, with C&C effect in play and twin link could get that percentage down to a fraction of a percent.... That is, if it wasn't for page 5 telling you to take the second result as the final result.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures. |

You're right, any BS past 5 is useless on a twin-linked method, you can never re-roll a re-roll.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

Well, if you're strapped for Markerlights, going past BS4 is pointless because the re-rolling still covers any misses. Re-rolling BS5 is a tad excessive.

If you absolutely need to have a 97.22% chance to hit it might, haven't you ever had a game come down to a single dice roll?

Have you ever had your Stormraven shot down in one hit by a snap shot off a combi-melta the turn after it comes in in a 1k points game? >.< Granted, that was 3 rolls, but my lord were they good rolls...for him haha. Occasionally it can come down to a single, or very low number of rolls, making the difference if it involves killing off a high threat unit. Not often though.

I have had a Night Scythe take out a Toughness 9 Hive Tyrant in 1 round of shooting.

Without the book handy, it's either the rules for twin linked or for BS6+...but somewhere we're told that in such situations the twin-link reroll is to be used. So you can't go with the lower BS reroll even if you wanted to.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
