@Sleekid : he said they only need 1 troop choice per player for this tourney.
I don't have much experience with Tau personally (except playing against them). The GK look pretty short on bodies to me, although with the lack of scoring bodies I'm not sure what changes you could reasonably make at 1000 points each.
I DO like the 3 DK's working alongside 3 Riptides. That could hurt, a lot.
Another idea I was thinking was draigo and lots of solodins + the dreadknights, if I remember from last year though, I dont think many of the missions used multiple objectives.
Just my opinion but i would rather have an ethereal or a fire blade instead of darkstrider sure he has some nice perks but i don't see what hes doing i'm probably missing something. Besides that the list is really nasty i love it
Tau needs to maximize on firepower. With 3 dreadknights, his shooters are going to be safe. Get more guns. You really don't need that many pathfinders. There's not enough units to really take advantage of them. I'd recommend dropping 1 unit of pathfinders for 1 more unit of fire warriors (maybe something like 3x10 FW's).
For the grey knights, you need to support your dreadknights. Sending just 3 dreadknights in against some armies is tantamount to suicide. I would either A) give them some more units to take the heat off of them or B) give them some more fire support. Personally, I would go with A.
Thanks jy2 for taking the time to reply, your advise is always really good
Agree that some tweaking needs to be done but we will work on it, but I love the idea of the basics of this style of team list, should be a lot of fun to play. I like that Mordrak list quite a bit actually
i was thinking 3 squads of pathfinders because then i can mark something for each tide ?

Thanks. I'm actually liking that list more than the Draigo list as well. That's potentially 4 threats at the enemy's doorstep by Turn 1.

The problem is that the Tau army usually need to focus-fire (or concentrate fire) to wipe out a unit. So while 3 pathfinders can light up 3 different units, in reality, your riptides will most likely just be firing at 1 or 2 units at a time. IMO this is a case of too much potatoes and not enough meat, or more support then there is actually enough offense for. I think a good rule of thumb is 1 markerlight unit for every 500-pts in a Tau army....so 2 at 1-1.25K and 3 at 1.5K.
Now if your partner can benefit from the markerlights, then it's ok. However, he doesn't benefit from them.
I suggest you playtest both builds at 1.25K and see which you like better. Heck, play against Tuiman's Triple Dreadknights to see which works better for you.

You gain more bodies who also have more flexibility. The Ethereal can join up with a Riptide for the great meatshield and then help boost your guys. You don't need velocity trackers (which are super points inefficient). Nothing in your list really fears flyers, IMO. It'll also give you more threat saturation because now you'll have 6 MCs and 3 high AV vehicles.
I also really dislike Fire Warriors when compared to Kroot. I find that the FW often times barely shoot at all because the first time they do they die in retaliation. Kroot on the other hand can just about always alpha strike and are very, very good at killing T3 squads. You can boost them with markers and they will make better use of it due to more shots fired.
Automatically Appended Next Post: If you added that to the Draigo GK portion JY2 mentioned, I think it'd be deadly.

@Jy2
yes you have a good point there, and now that its written out in full, i agree with you the 3rd squad is a bit of a waste. what would you reccommend to go in its place ?

while i do kind of agree, i have never been a fan of kroot, and even though ethereals are good in this dex i really like darkstrider and his abilitys, if you dont agree thats your opinion but i have found good ways to use him.
and on the skyray front. I have no skyray models, only railheads

Regardless. I think the point to take away from what I said is that you can field more threats and you should. 6 MCs is nice but you need to remember that at 2500 points your opponents will most likely have quite a bit of firepower. I'd prefer to have a higher threat saturation.
on the GK side you could swap the termi unit for a full unit of GKSS (with psycanon and psy amo) and take an aegis for the TAU ally with the remaining points.
3DK is hard to counter to be honest (especially with 3 riptide allied), if you go on a single flank, you can really burn a lot turn one and charge with the surviving on turn 2 (with riptide on the same flank for further threat while the rest defends your second flank)...
Yes, thinking about this one more, I'd be inclined to drop one Dreadknight and one Riptide and replace them with a LOT more Dakka and an Aegis for the Tau. I'd also swap out the Terminators for a GKSS (+psycannon or two, points allowing).
The lack of boots on the ground concerns me greatly. Hordes of dakka or CC units will put a major hurt on you.
i think the 3 DK with heavy incinerator can manage hordes quite a bit.
and if you get a squad of GKSS, with the primary from divination, they can thin hordes a bit too
As much as I love 3 dreadknights, I'm wondering if a better list could be made with 2.
I would also like to point out that all the missions last year were fun/crazy missions made by the t.o, none are from the brb, and none had more than 1 objective iirc, so we dont need to worry to much about scoring I don't think
