I really like the rules and fluff for Obliterators but I hate the GW models.
Have people got away with using other models?
If so which ones?
Anyone got any cool MoN Obliterator conversions?
Thanks in advance, I'm really stumped here.

I absolutely loathe everything HiTech sculpts, I really do. I've seen good results using Spawn and Chaos Terminator bits though.

I quite like the models, but could you use them in a gw tournament?

Any reason? I'm debating buying some their stuff did you have a bad experience with them?

No you could not use them in a GW tournaement, but a non GW organized tournament, or between friends I see no reason for not using them. They actualy look more like what I have always imagied Oblits to look like

Yeah I agree they look better, but I live fairly close to warhammer world so about a third to a half of the tournaments I'm in are organised by gw

Ah I see well, just say you converted them heavily, and with some unidefied bitzs you found at home. GW would be non the wiser

Not likely, I'm afraid. Anyone with an eye for GW models can see that the only thing that *could* have conceivably come from another model is the wrist-mounted "storm bolters". You would have to convince GW that you had instead sculpted them yourself, so if they're sticking out as the only examples in an otherwise normal army...

Don't let GW tournaments dictate whether you use other manufacturer's models that you really like, unless you actually plan on playing in the dwindling numbers of them, of course.

Can't say I've had a bad experience with them, and I'm sure they're just peachy to deal with. I just really don't like the aesthetic. It's stiff, boxy, and overdetailed. It also looks all kind of fat and oddly proportioned. I guess you could make some of these same comments about GW's miniatures (it's styled after them, after all) but I think GW has sculptors who can pull it off while these guys don't. Just personal preference with aesthetics.

I agree, I just plain dislike those sculpts. To me they don't look like Obliterators. They look like something trying to look like Obliterators, if that makes any sense. Mind you I'm not wild about the GW sculpts either.
Or cool one, which looks a lot like the current range but much better:

They aren't the best Obliterators I've ever seen.
They are the best sculpted (and finely painted) Obliterators I've seen.
But the small artwork of the Obliterator in the 3.0 CSM Codex inspired me to buy my first model.
So that particular image, IMHO, is the best Obliterator I've ever seen.

The old OOP obliterators looked much better. Have a look for them on ebay.
Other than that, converted chaos termies.

I actually really like those 'Terrorizers' and I've been looking for alternatives to GW's rather downy looking Oblits, I'm sure kitbashing terms and something else would work but I can't afford/justify ~$40 per model.

I agree with you for the most part - I don't like GW's sculpts either! However, I really like this one. I can tell it's a heavily converted/partially scratchbuilt, but do you know if the dude is selling casts? It fits the GW aesthetic really well.
EDIT: Okay, I found a guy selling them on eBay, but he's also a recaster so I won't link it here. Might have to look into this!
