Pretty much as per topic - Has anyone had a lot of success with it? Is the extra points cost for the endurance and the thunderfire cannon worth it? What do you transport with it?

You see, I have this image of three Achillesses with Asterion Moloc and an honor guard in one of them in my mind and I just can't shake it off. The list would be 1999pts or under. Let's hammer this into a list that wouldn't _completely_ suck.

Well I after I converted my Ares I started thinking about an Achilles. But I don't even have a TFC and have never played one so I have no idea how it would work on the table. But people keep saying that the TFC is the bright spot of the C:SM.

I've started running an Achilles in my DA Ravenwing list, and I'm loving it. The TFC. Is nicely versatile, the MMs are nasty, even at farther ranges, and the additional endurance is nice. Plus it just looks awesome. You might try proxying one before shelling out for it, though.

I use Sabol foam, and it fits nicely in a 3.5" or 4" foam tray, IIRC.

It's a durable fire platform, but with the new Hull Point rules I'd say it isn't worth the 300+ points you are paying for it. (It's somewhere around there, right?)
You used to need either a penetrating hit and a roll of a '6' to kill it, or 5 glancing hits that rolled a 6. Now, 4 glancing hits will do the trick just fine. It also has no effect against most special rules, so Armorbane, Rending, Haywire, etc. will still vaporize it just like any other tank.
Since you can only carry either a squad of 6 or 3 bulky, it also makes a mediocre transport. And since TFCs by themselves became far more durable in 6th, I think the Achilles has become fairly weak. Still usable and fun, but nowhere near the powerhouse it used to be.

Actually hull points are the only way to kill it now. the way it is worded "The damage roll it suffered is deducted by 1" so you cannot blow it up ever, just immobiize it

AP1 and AP2 weapons can kill it.

With the range of the thundrefire cannon and the immunity to lance and melta it is still hard to crack open from long range unless the opponent fields large amounts of S10. Haywire is pretty limited to dark eldar and I can't say that they are the most popular army right now and rending is still capped at S6 so despite it's chanses to kill an achilles I wouldn't be to worried about them. I say go ahead and do it especially if it is for the glory of Asterion Moloc and the Minotaurs.

My armies:
vior'la sept 12k
Erik Morkai's great company 6k
dark mechanicus, the dearth of hope, 8k
rothwyr morwan's company 1,5k
Adeptus custodes 2k
AoS, The forgotten order, SE, 3k

AP1 and AP2 weapons can kill it.

Wrong they cannot. it is the damage result it suffered, so it suffered an explosion, but that gets down graded to immobilized.

Huh, that's rather interesting. As you say, it doesn't modify the Damage Result roll, but rather the result itself, causing it to completely ignore other modifiers.
