Anyone else think it's silly to have a single News and Rumors group for the 19 different game subforums?
I play a pretty wide variety of games, but even with that the News and Rumors subforum is swamped in things I don't care about.
Likewise, when a rumor thread evolves into a tactical discussion of the application of the rumors; it's not really about the news or the rumors anymore but about the tactics.

Would Dakka Dakka function more effectively with rumors for specific sub-forum games to be found in that subforum?

I believe the prevailing knowledge here is that a split news/rumors forum will garner less rumors.

Kickstarter threads are moved to subforums once the campaign ends, though, which has helped with congestion. Not sure what else would belong elsewhere, tbh, without getting too fractured.

A lot of users like to read news and rumors for a variety of games -- including games they may not have heard of before -- rather than an isolated stream of info. I'd recommend the "search this forum function" if you are only interested in something in particular.

As to tactics based on rumors ... yep, this still counts as discussion of rumors.

I would like to see 40k rumours allowed in the 40k sub forum, since all the 40k rumours get swamped with anti 40k trolls and their hilarious 'great news!' jokes and overwhelming negativity.

And how is that going to stop them? You don't like whats happening? Just hit the triangle of friendship a Mod will do something if it's needed. No need to be moving things around.

id rather have a single place to get all news and rumors from then a bunch of sub forums with only a post or two in them

It's an attempt by "The Man" to get all non-gw news and rumors out of N&R so that people don't have to sift through a few threads

Every single 40k rumour thread contains pages of unrelated negative flaming. I have reported some posts but nothing ever comes of it - 40k n&r threads remain massive dumping grounds for general anti-40k memeing.

Well, it's discussion of news and rumors.

People will talk about stuff they like and don't like. That's how these kind of things go.

In fairness, there tend to be literally pages of flaming and trolling in the N&R forums that seem to rage on and on.

I don't even bother with anything that doesn't have Kroothawk keeping a running list of updates in the OP of the thread.

Totally agree with that, if the person who opens the thread can't update the OP it needs to get closed. Nothing more frustrating that having to trawl through a thread to find glorious news or leaked pictures.

In saying that, i still do like the N&R section as it is.

I'd rather people talked about the actual news/rumour. We have dakka discussions for random unrelated gw bashing.

In previous threads, it was suggested to add mandatory [GAMESYSTEM] or [KICKSTARTER] tags in front of the threads...and I'd still appreciate such a solution. Seems easily doable to me and helps everyone!
