I wouldn't dilute the Simple Green, if you go that route - it only slows down the process. Plenty of threads/articles on stripping models, if you want to consider other solvents. Just run a quick search, whether on Dakka or at large, and you'll get a good rundown of what's available, along with any necessary warnings (some of the stuff is rather caustic, some is only safe to use on metals, etc.).
Now, whether or not I'd strip them in the first place is a different matter, entirely. Personally, I'd be tempted to save one, even if stripping the rest, both as a piece of nostalgia and a baseline when tracking your progress. Depending on their current condition, you may also be able to touch them up later without needing to start from scratch (hard to say without seeing them). There's also the question of gaming and the size of your collection. If you have other models to move onto, I'd leave them be for the moment, especially if you plan to play with them. Better to have one comparatively crude squad in a fully painted army than leave half of them gray, since you keep revisiting the same models.
TLDR: Only a problem if you think it is. If so, you've got options.
