Ok I've filtered out
- Games Workshop - Bromley, Bluewater, Croydon, Oxford Street, Covent Garden
- South-Eastern Warlords - Catford
- Cross Gaming / Clapham Wargamers - London
- Good, Bad, The Bromley - ... Bromley
- Heroes & Legends - Croydon
- Manufactured Conflict - Dartford
Is there any other clubs that I have not found?
I still have not found the right club and I'm running out of choices.
Dulwich and additional Warlords cannot be reached

Have you tried Dark Sphere near Waterloo station? I recently heard of them for a decent GW discount so picked up a DV box. They do 40k on wednesdays and I think they had an day of Apocolypse Sat also. I literally popped into there on a friday and the shop was very busy. Their website isn't amazing but it has a timetable of games on the front page.
I was thinking about playing a game there once I've painted my army if they are open to newbies. I never got into playing that much first time round so am learning from scratch. I might pop into there and talk to them some time this week.

Yeah that was missed out the list. It didn't work out there either
I'm sure there's a few minor clubs I missed.

What's wrong with most of those places?
Is there anywhere to look for actual clubs? Being in London or the South East there must be tonnes to chose from, finding them seems like the difficult part.

Fenrir Kitsune wrote:You've been to all those clubs and still not found the right one? What is the right one?
I'm usually not too high standards on things, but with this game it has to be right. Most of the clubs are NOT bad, but it just doesn't work out for me.
Short summary (slightly vague)
Games Workshop Bromley: gak players and managers, use to have a great battle station upstairs but when they went, so did I.
Games Workshop Bluewater: The worst games workshop I've been too, everything is terrible.
Games Workshop Croydon: not bad, but the timetables for games is not great, also a very long distance. Also temporary closes for lunch, when I usually start playing.
Games Workshop Oxford Street: use to be good (the best of my GW choices), but the recent busyness (not they're fault) has changed the system, it's limited and tight. Also I don't like the new manager
Games Workshop Covent Garden: Obviously a small store, but the only time I went there was full of stubborn cheating morons. Never going back.
South-Eastern Warlords: the only warlords I can reach. It has a nice place and terrain, some nice players but it ends pretty late with the distance I have to travel, but the last few times I've had a few problems with the players, and it's repelled me to go there again.
Cross Gaming: Very noisy, twice I've been and its chaotic. Alright players, not much 40k.
Clapham Wargamers: I'm tempted to try this club again, but due to budget troubles its not easy with London Fairs (except deep central london). Club seems alright, and maybe enough fine players, but the player who I played against was rude, stressful and just not pleasent to play against, barely to talk to. I might try again in the future, since it was just that player I had trouble with.
Good, Bad, The Bromley: Local, cheap and easy travel. Would be great but it doesn't have enough variety in players and terrain. Some players I have troubles with, but I generally ignore them. Best what I can do, but the environment itself is very varied, good or bad.
Heroes & Legends: A great store, but in croydon it's a long distance to get there. There are some nice players, but I can't really book games, so half of the time I end up not playing and it's not worth the travel to do so (not easy to book games either). Also suffers from lack of variety
Manufactured Conflict: The best group of players I've met since, been twice so this may change on more frequent visits. Great terrain but it's not a very good venue, and the game time isn't good either. I would visit as a regular if the last two was just improved a bit.
Darksphere: very cheap, though I have to play london travel fees. Although I have not visited recent 40k games, they don't play it often and when I do book I don't get along with the players. They are usually rude, bad sportsmanship and generally unpleasent. May revisit in the future
The problem is that one club has a great community, but horrible place/time, or it's a nice place/time but horrible players! And I can't believe I have NOT found one that does both.
I need it to be local, but doesn't have to be too near (maybe up to 50 minutes bus travel)
It needs to be cheap, but doesn't have to be very cheap.
It needs a good community of fair and friendly players, and enough variety of army and lists to keep playing
And the place, while it doesn't have to be great it needs enough variety and flexible game time (usually from mid-day -> night) to work for the player
it's a bit to ask, but I've tried staying with limits and doesn't work, it starts to hurt me after a while.
The Good, The Bad, The Bromley and Manufactured Conflict are the closest to what I want, and I'm making due with them for now, but I don't know how long I can put up with it since I can't see it being a permanent solution. I'm a friendly and teaching player, but it wasn't like this when I first started playing, and I just want a regular club to work with.

I had a little search this morning and found one close to me: http://www.reaperswargaming.co.uk/
Not far from bluewater and looks close to a train station. Timing could be out.
There seemed a few in central London but not sure they all catered for 40k.

Nah, way too far. I've expended every Games Workshop within reach (and I rather not go to GW if I can help it)

How did you find this? It seems great, the only downside seems to be the timing, but since it's very local it might work out. I will try that out very soon thanks

Theres a club down the road from the chiswick GW store every saturday, just ask in store where it is, someone should be there who knows. Even if you cant do that, I can recommend the store, not too busy, pretty much everyones nice, but [b]I can almost guarantee you will find someone to play with[b], and the manager IIRC has a hook up program, as in he books yo down for a table and looks for someone interested to play with you.
Good community, as in the only one we all hated left forever two weeks ago so that problems gone And also the manager is great too. Only real problem is its a tiny bit cramped, but only when the stores full, which Ive only seen happen twice, during event.
As an added note, you shouldn't make judgment of an entire community based off of one person, as is what youve done for one or two. I recommend revisiting those stores were it was the person you were playing against was the problem, so you can be sure and get a good idea of if its the whole community.

Not sure where, was amoungst a list of clubs somewhere. There isn't much on their forum but the facebook page looks busy. They seem to have some very big Apocolypse games planned which could suit you as they seem to be over a weekend.
Their league looks like a lot of games so I'm not sure it would suit me very well. I'd have to find out if I could get the one bus there easily and if it would suit me being a complete begginer playing.
Good luck.

Aha! So this is where all the web traffic is coming from
Hello, I'm one of the officers who runs Bexley Reapers Wargaming Club.
We've just recently started to improve our online presence to help people find us, seems to be working which is encouraging.
If you're local I'd definitely recommend popping by to check us out. We only charge subs if you have a game, so socialising or painting is free. Even then, your first night gaming is free. subs are £3, but we also do a voucher card scheme, 4 nights for £10, and we stamp the card each night you play. Also the voucher card never expires.
We've had quite a few new members recently, so we've got a wide range of skill levels and we're more than willing to teach.
We do have a league on at the moment, but it's a long running league which anyone can join at any time, and probably about a third of 40k games tend to be league games so there's still plenty of non league games every week. There's no organised timetable for these games either, it's just a turn up and play affair. League games are 1750 points, which is the standard points value we play so people tend to turn up with their armies and are ready to play anyone.
We just started up a youtube channel which talks about the club too, check it out: http://www.youtube.com/user/ReapersWargaming
There's a few power gamers in the league, but other than that we're in it for the fluff and a good time (it helps that there's a pub next door).
We mainly play 40k and Magic: the gathering on club nights, but there's people who play pretty much every game out there so I'm sure you can find someone to play other games with, or even introduce you to them!
Anyway, drop us a line on the forum or facebook page if you do fancy popping by.
~

I popped into Dark SPhere last week and I think they do 200pt games on a Wednesday. £2 for the evening and you get to play a few games against different people that way.
I'm looking to pop down both in the near future to try and learn the game and see how I get on with it.

I have not been to Darksphere for a very long time, so that has to be rejudged.
But believe me, it's not me. If I had known it would this difficult to find a workable club I would'nt have started the hobby, but my usual place got shut down and I've been wandering since.
I don't expect players to be beyond decent people, but if the club itself is not the problem then the players would be unfair, take every advantage over you at the cost of socialising, spam the most recent broken unit GW has not fixed then there's a damn serious problem with the clubs I go to. I expect at least someone who has the willingness to help out and teach, play well without being a dick about it and general get to communicate and know each other better if things go well.
And honestly, every nice person I've ever met that has has none of these problems has only appeared in a club once and never EVER returned (some I even tried leaving contact details, and nothing got through), and I feel that the regulars are always the ones you don't want to play with

If you can make it to the overlords then I reckon you will enjoy it, there are hardly any competitive gamers and not one WAAC or TFG there.

And honestly, every nice person I've ever met that has has none of these problems has only appeared in a club once and never EVER returned (some I even tried leaving contact details, and nothing got through), and I feel that the regulars are always the ones you don't want to play with
How did you get on at Bexley? I see on the FB page that you were going back again, must be a good sign!
Still finishing an army and I'm going to learn some rules before visiting either DS or BR. Wouldn't be fair for me to know absolutely nothing about the game when coming down.

The club in chiswick is now on a wednesday evening, there's only a small group of us at the moment, but it seems to be going ok so far (it's only been running for a few months)
@ op whereabouts are you based? I'm guessing out to the east somewhere?
Wheres the Chiswick club based? got a site as I might cycle over myself and have a look. Is it GW only?
This is the facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ChiswickWargamingClub, it's looked after by a couple of the younger members, so isn't as useful as it might be. We meet on wednesday evenings from six till nine at Chiswick Army Cadets Unit, 18 Stamford Brook Avenue, a couple of minutes walk from Stamford Brook station. So far it's just been GW, but with the upcoming Malifaux second edition release, I'm going to try and interest a few people in that too.

I dont want to sound rude, but you've gone to lots of clubs and seem to find faults with the players at each one. Have you ever considered that you personally may be the problem, not the other players? Have you thought how you may come across, because ultimately gaming is a hobby which many people play who perhaps have very different social abilities. You are going to groups which are often close knit, and expecting to find the 'the group' instantly. Reading your summaries, I found myself wondering whether you yourself were to blame for the way your opponents acted and perhaps you should ask if you need to change.

I
I wonder if the problem is with you, not the clubs.
I'm an objective judge, as I don't play myself, I drop my son off for games at Dark Sphere, where they have regular 40K every Wednesday night.
Every single last person he's played against has been intelligent, helpful, and the opposite of WAAC. This is over a recent sequence of five or six weeks.

If you can make it to the overlords then I reckon you will enjoy it, there are hardly any competitive gamers and not one WAAC or TFG there.
Check out the facebook page if you want

Yeah I wanted to try that place, but its sadly out of reach. Thanks anyway

The place is nice and I love the terrain variety, the person I played was polite but sadly it wasn't the type of 40k I enjoyed playing (competition vs fluff list), I was also unexpectly tired and my reactions were not standard. But there's a lot of players there my luck may improve
Let me know when you come and I happily give you a tutorial game. Did you have any models to use, I can let you borrow mine for a game for 1000 vs 1000 points

You're the same person who told me in a older thread I posted to stop using others to search for clubs when I explained that I ran out of searching options over the years (which you also said no offense)
You should probably ignore threads with my name since its obvious you've got nothing to help with me with. Someone already mentioned if it it was my problem, and parts of it maybe true, but when I've seen the potential this game can bring to socialize and have fun I know something is terribly wrong when I can't find a stable club to reach this goal.
When I meet people I play fair, I teach (and if I bring up the rules too much i tend to either keep it short or find a 2 second solution) to players who knows the rules left, though games go smoother when I have an opponent who knows the majority of the book. I could say more nice things I do but I'm quite aware of my actions and how players respond to me. At worst I tend to get fed up by the end, but usually at the result of having a player who can't be communicated with (and I mean the very worst)
Only once did I lose myself over a game, and that was for good reason because that player had the worst attitude I've ever seen in gaming and I felt like I was being treated like a moron, and that has not happened again since and hopefully never again.
But I will mention because of this that I am sorry that I posted my opinions on the clubs, I was in a bad mood when I posted that and it should've been left unposted, so don't let my grumpy words offput anyone from trying these clubs out.

Whether or not you're right, the OP is certainly talking pants about Dark Sphere.
My son's been going there for months - he's 12, and the guys there are sweethearts, they don't patronise him by pulling punches, but there's absolutely no WAAC mentality. They're also an intelligent, interesting bunch. So, for anyone reading this thread, it might be worth taking some or many of those opinions with a pinch of salt.
