I have been working on a couple of terrain pieces over the past week. Made a couple of simple area terrain bases. Made a trench defense line out of some old spuce and added a couple of coils of barbed wire. Then made some concrete bunkers with sand bagged nest up top out of some styrofoam packaging and air dry clay. All turned out ok and should look decent on the table when my son and I play.
Enjoy!

I like it. making a theme board? i have found me being more interested in terrain lately. It really does make all the difference in the game.

I am really not making a themed board on purpose. These pieces were just what seemed the easiest to tackle. The bunkers really just took some cutting and paint. The styrofoam containers were already in the right shape. The trench thing I had had for some time but never felt "done" to me. When I was buying the clay for the sand bags on the bunker I ran across the floral wire which I used to make the barbed wire fences. That made the trench "done" for me.
My terrain kind of needs to be free standing because my son and I play on the kitchen table. We just pick the stuff we like or maybe works with the kind of game we want to play.

These look great! I recommend coating the sand on the emplacement/trench with a 50/50 mix of Elmer's glue/water. This will help to keep the sand in place over the life of the terrain piece and add strength to the overall construction.

Nice, but I do have one small suggestion regarding the bunkers.
Expanded polystyrene always looks like expanded polystyrene, even when painted. Giving it a coating of sand before painting helps make it look a little more "concrete", like this, for example.
Just a suggestion.
