Subject: Best allies to spice up necrons?

I have had a few necron battles now. The army is 50% painted and should be nearly all done by some Christmas. However Necrons do seem a little dull. Now, don't get me wrong, I love charging a Royal Court around and killing everything in sight, but it does seem a bit formulaic now. Stand back and shoot and then your overlord will clean up what's left.
So what can I add to make the army a little more exciting? I don't really want to play VSM. My main opponent has both sets of Angels, guard, and some choas marines. Sisters seem a bit cliche... I have a few orks from Gorkamorka but they are poorly painted and broken. The only other thing would be tyranids, but they can't be friends with Necrons. Same with the chaos beasts. So I was thinking: Space Wolves? What would everyone recommend? Was thinking about 2 - 3 boxes ideally, a little bit on the side.
Thanks,

If you are looking for enjoyable allies with Necrons then orks is a good choice since they are pretty much the polar opposite of the necron play style. I haven't had too much success running Necrons with Ork allies (I've done better with orks as the primary detachment),but it's still fun. Each other army that we can ally with don't provide the change in play style as much as the orks even though some offer a lot more in terms of competitive play.

Orcs or GreyKnights .Both can give a necron army very powerful troop choices .

Or, you could mix up your units and change the style of your list. stand back and shoot is only one of the options you can use.
Necrons don't really need allies. You're probably better off reversing it. Pick another army and using Necron allies while you build up the new one.

If your answer wasn't "Blood Angels", it was the wrong answer.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised. |
