Hey Dakka,

I am just curious to see how everyone else uses their Aegis Defense Line? I use mine with my Chaos Havocs, autocannons, and Quad Gun. I usually try to wrap it around my squad so there are no openings. If possible deploy it with the clearest LOS possible. Depending on if I deploy first or they do.

Quad gun is a gift, everybode must be using it, if you try to compare similar options in armies, you´ll see it clear

Executing Exarch

Icarus lascannon + fast shot exarch

rectangle using the small bits to make compartments to protect against barrage.

Nasty firepower that can remove flyers as they come on. It is usually hard to keep alive as it is so deadly but relatively fragile.

quadd gun + CCS

Straight line or slightly bent line. Usually against one side of the table.

My CCS actually gets to do something besides give orders. Finally the officers get put to work.

comms relay + tarantula sentry gun/hyperios platform

rectangle using the small bits to make compartments to protect against barrage. I try to keep 2 platforms near the comms relay incase they kill one.

This is how I stay on the board turn 1 for my aircav/DS armies.

Refused Flank on long board missions.

Set it up all the way on one side in a box or other defensive setup.
Let your opponent deploy first (most likely opposite the aegis).
Profit.

My awesome tyranid quad gun sits on my shelf... shame on me for getting it before GW could FAQ Tyranids from being able to use it.

At one point their FAQ was worded in such a way to allow the weapons for the aegis defense line. Then they changed it...

I use to put my BS 4 venomthrope on it lol

Use the plane defense line to give a static gun line a 4+. 50 point cover save is very useful.

17,000 points (Valhallan)
10,000 points
6,000 points (Order of Our Martyred Lady)
Proud Countess of House Terryn hosting 7 Knights, 2 Dominus Knights, and 8 Armigers

Deploy Icarus Lascannon forward with a very close Objective or two.

Turn 1/2Intercept with Fast Shot Avatar, use it to grant cover to advancing units

Turn 2/3+ Objective Camping Wraithguard, possibly Spiritseer if available

SOB retributors with their act of faith that give them Rending to the quad gun. Its actually beautiful to behold when it works.
or
Cannoness mans the gun while her command squad with 3 heavy bolters and Feel No Pain lay down the law.

For my Imperial Fists my non-conversion beamer tech marine mans it.

Herald of Tzeentch (BS4) manning the Icarus LC while casting prescience on the forgefiend next to it. Very accurate LC shots and (8) STR 8 AP4 TL shots per round! Makes a mockery of aircraft or horde units.

It is the 3rd Millennium. For more than a hundred months Games Workshop has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Nottingham. It is the foremost of wargames by the will of the neckbeards, and master of a million tabletops by the might of their inexhaustible wallets. It is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with business strategies from the early Industrial Revolution Age. It is the Carrion Lord of the wargaming scene for whom a thousand veteran players are sacrificed every day, so that it may never truly die. Yet even in its deathless state, GW continues its eternal vigilance. Mighty battleforce starter-sets cross the online-store-infested miasma of the internet, the only route between distant countries, their way lit by a draconian retail trade-agreement, the legal manifestation of the GW's will. Vast armies of lawyers give battle in GW's name on uncounted websites. Greatest amongst its soldiers are the Guardians of the IP, the Legal Team, bio-engineered super-donkey-caves. Their comrades in arms are legion: the writing team and countless untested rulebooks, the ever vigilant redshirts, and the writers of White Dwarf, to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from other games, their own incompetence, Based Chinaman - and worse. To support Games Workshop in such times is to spend untold billions. It is to support the cruelest and most dickish company imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of sales discounts and Warhammer Fantasy Battle, for so much has been dropped, never to be re-published again. Forget the promise of cheaper digital content and caring about the fanbase, for in the GW HQ there is only profit-seeking, Space Marines and Sigmarines. There is no fun amongst the hobby shops, only an eternity of raging and spending, and the laughter of former employees who left GW to join better companies.

My most common tactic is to stick a quad gun on it, then use Telion and a unit of scouts to shoot down flyers or snipe heavy weapons. If the cover/terrain is limited, it's also where my Thunderfire cannons go.

Aaaaaaaagh ya beat me to it by 3 minutes

But yeah, telion is beast, pick out those heavy weapon guys or even better an HQ hiding in a squad (still get to make a "look out sir" though). Very useful, lets me do what I would have done with a rifleman dread for about 100 points cheaper AND gives me cover AND lets me use telion beautify.

OH! and don't forget to give your squad camo cloaks if you are running telion, they'll get 2+ cover save

edit: cover save

Resin Printer (minaitures) is a 4K printer with one of the largest build volumes available for a resin printer (192mm x 120mm x 245mm) with an amazing .01mm resolution! This professional printer is one of the best resin printers on the market!

FDM Printer (terrain) also has one of the largest build volumes available for an FDM printer (400mm x 400mm x 450mm) and has an amazing ,05mm build accuracy.

My Eldar one will be fitted with an Icarus (I'm building my own out of a Support platform and the barrel off of a Fire Prism) manned by Dark Reapers with a Fast Shot Exarch.

When I get round to getting one for my Grey Knights, the Quad gun/Icarus will be manned by a Vindicare (I usually use an Icarus Bastion with my GKs though)

I play a few armies:
Forces of Order: Grey Knights & Eldar
Forces of Disorder: Dark Eldar
Forces of 'we don't care, we're just going to eat you anyway': Tyranids

NEW!! For 2014: Deadzone, 40k RPG: Rogue Trader, XWing and Dreadball!

Also went in for Rampage with the DBX KS.

I put it on my desk at work, and then inform my colleagues that I am going to ground and as such receive a 2+ cover save against work.

Really, I like to take a quad gun and then sit a few squads of long fangs behind it, with my RP operating the Quad Gun.

Back in the day, we were epic Space Vikings with horns, and beer, and stupid mockney accents, and we didn't have any truck with this flying around like a pansy shizzle. We certainly didn't surround ourselves with mangy animals.

Now we're basically the Bestiality Chapter.

We also now ride chariots and employ daemonic dreadnoughts...also, we fly and teleport with abandon. With wolves.

LOL!

I should try that!

So far I've just used the 50 point wall by itself in games for a cover save.

Using a quad gun with Inquisitor Coteaz and his Special Rule " I was expecting you" is quite effective too

I'm almost tempted to get one and stick it in the center of the field with or without a quad gun. Mostly use it to bait an opponent to stick a unit in there to 'steal' it from me. Then load up on flamers and torch anything in there.
