Subject: Dreadclaw Drop pod experimaental rules..

Mutated Chosen Chaos Marine

Ok so im writing some Dreadclaw drop pod rules for CSM and I was wondering but would this give them a slight boost for the army? Dreadclaw Drop Pod.................................................55pts WS:3 BS:4 I:3 F:12 S:12 R:12 HP:3 Unit Type: Open-topped Skimmer Transport A Dreadclaw Drop Pod has a capacity of 12 models. A Dreadclaw Drop Pod may transport the following units: -Chaos Space marines -Khorne Berserkers -Thousand sons -Plague Marines -Noise Marines -Hellbrute A Dreadclaw Drop Pod may also transport the a single Hellbrute Fire Points and Access Points: Once deployed the Dreadclaw Drop Pod is no longer a sealed environment and is therefore counted as being open topped Special Rules: Dreadclaw Assault: Dreadclaw Drop Pods always enter play using the deep strike rules from the Special Rules section from the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook. at the beginning of your first turn, you must choose half of your Dreadclaw Drop Pods (rounding up) to make "Dreadclaw Assault". Units making a Dreadclaw Assault arrive on the players first turn. The arrival of the remaining Dreadclaw Drop Pods is rolled for as normal. A unit that Deep Strikes via Dreadclaw Drop Pod may not assault on the turn the Dreadclaw Drop Pod arrives. Daemonic Guidance: Once you have rolled to scatter, you may re-roll the scatter result but the second result will always stand (so no going back to the first result!) Redeploy!:A Dreadclaw drop pod has entered the battlefield via Deep strike, on the next turn it may elect to declare a "Redeploy!". In the controlling players movement phase before the controlling player moves any models, the controlling player must elect how many Dreadclaw Drop Pods will active their "Redeploy!", once the controlling player has done this, the controlling player places the number of Dreadclaw Drop Pods he or she has declared in his or her "Redeploy!" into reserve and is allowed to embark more of the following units into the Dreadclaw Drop Pods he or she has put into reserve from the "Redeploy!" rule: -Chaos Space marines -Khorne Berserkers -Thousand sons -Plague Marines -Noise Marines Once this has occurred in the next controlling players turn, the Controlling player may Deep Strike the units as normal, just as the Dreadclaw Drop Pod Deep Striked the previous unit. So what do you guys think? I personally always wanted a CSM Drop Pod army and was quite disappointed when they did not show up in the latest 'dex, but I digress. So what is you opinion on this unit and do you think it would be of any good to a CSM army? please let me know in the comments section. Cheers to all comments .

Yes there are the FW rules but they are not dedicated transports they are fast attack options and outdated. and the FW ones are open topped skimmers, and personally I do not see a walking Drop pod going that fast, and this is meant to be a current edition for 6th ed. for the current CSM codex, and whilst giving it a distinction between the SM drop Pod and this one so it would not be a C+P job, and adding more variety.

Methinks you should read IA: Aeronautica. It's an update to 6th edition; make sure you read the fluff as well. The only thing you have right is that they are FA, and I don't see much of a problem with this (but then again, I don't use Heldrakes). They are flyers with the Hover rule (after landing once), because they lift off the ground again to redeploy troops elsewhere. In other words, they don't walk, they fly. This is the only difference needed, you can redploy troops in a way no other space marine army can.
... Just checked in Horus Heresy Betrayal, they cost 20 points more than normal, but can be taken as dedicated transport for certain elite squads and Dreadnoughts. The only problem is that units can't assault the turn they arrive.

See, you're trying to use people logic. DM uses Mandelogic, which we've established has 2+2=quack. - Aerethan

AFAIK, there is only one world, and it is the real world. - Iron_Captain

I should really paint some of my models instead of browsing forums. |

35 points is the same as a regular drop pod, and no assault is possible out of it. you may be falling into the trap of undercosting a model because you think it is needed.

Honestly, the IA:A one is better than this for a multitude of reasons. Grab a copy of it for your group because most of the models in IA:A are amazing imo

Well I did not know it was in IA: A and I don't think I will be getting it for quite a while tbh, as im still setting up my force and plus I do attend my local tournaments whist I also casual game, but in our tourneys we do not allow FW, so I wouldn't be able to use the rules much anyway. What I was trying to achieve here was to make a Drop pod for CSM from the top of my head to show how little effort it would have needed to create and edit one for the codex, yes I know it takes time for the sculptor to create the DP model but I seriously think if they started that project along with the other sculpts it would not have taken as long as the other sculpts they did (such as the Helldrake for example). Fair do's if this one may seem a little undercosted I shall add 20pts to it make it become an open-topped skimmer and will add a rule to shoot back up to the ship, to redeploy more troops. Edit: There we go, gave it more points and an extra rule to be able to redeploy more troops.

Yeah, I don't think I will be getting HH: Betrayal either, because whilst I would love to have an IW and a DG legion, I don't have the money to afford the books or the models, which is a shame but hey-ho there are bright sides to everything

The only real changes the dreadclaws need are; dedicated transports and Half of them comes in play turn one, and the other half in subsequent turns has usual.
the rest is perfect has it is.
no need for a chaos version of Linear guidance system.
the thing is a flyer, make it come in a safe zone, even if it is far from everything, in the shooting phase you make it Zoom 24" where you want to relocate.
