So like the title states I got my book and overall think they are now very balanced with more options on how to run them. So I am posting this if anyone has any questions on new rules I am willing to answer questions. Per Dakka policy I will not post any points values I will however relay if the points increased or decreased. So ask away.

What cool upgrades can slaan get now and how many points?

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

Yeah, the only things I really care about are the Slaan. I want to know whether they increased or decreased in points, and then I want to know everything else about them.

I got some, I preordered the special book so I haven't gotten mine yet.

Whats changed?

Are they weaker? More op? More balanced?

What new stuff total do they have? Does it feel like its a new release like with necrons or does it feel like 2 new things came out?

@OP: You mentioned more options, what are those? Even with the new book, the only viable comp list I see right now is your same old Saurus+Slann list, maybe with 1 Initiativeosaur sprinkled over.

Any details on the Cold One Cavalry?

Is the Troglodon a character?

Cold One Cav are pretty good due to the 2 attack Cold One, and the Predatory Fighter rule. Not sure if the spear upgrade is worth it, as they will grind quite well in 2nd round combats with 4 Str 4 attacks per model.

Troglodon is a Rare choice, and you can't hit the Skink on top. He buffs units with the Predatory Fighter rule by activating a once per game howl that makes the Predatory Fighter rule work on a 5+. Mediocre Monster stats otherwise, kind of a semi-support unit than a true Monster.

Slann got nerfed, predictably, but still decent compared to the other 8th ed books. Got a points increase surprisingly, but his Slann powers got cheaper overall. Most of them are semi-useful with the clear winners being Loremaster High Magic (very good coupled with the Lore Attribute) and "bank a dispel dice into a power dice" power.

With Skinks having access to Beasts and a second pseudo-scroll, I'm thinking of going Slann-less and just running lots of combat blocks. Oh, and Skink/Krox units are quite good with a points decrease and Str increase on the Kroxigors (love those models too!)

Is it still possible to run a pure skink army?
And if so, is there another lord level character other than huan?

Need to get this book ordered.

Does pure Skink include Kroxigors? If so, yes. If not, lack of high Str will struggle vs the multitude of 1+ armour saves out there.

Yeah, the Slann's ability to take Cupped Hands, a free dice and to cast freely whilst in combat are all gone.

It's the High Elf high magic Lore, except with a different lore attribute.

After successfully casting a high magic spell the caster can forget that spell and generate a new spell from any of the lores from the BRB.

Ok sorry it took so long to get on. Overall the slaan is not as powerful as he once was but definetly more balanced. They have way less in the aspect of equipment. The normal slaanwent up in price. It is deffinitly easier for you to run a non Slaan army actually the book actually feels as if they are pushing you to do it. The Lore for Lizardmen seems really balanced as well. Kroxigor can join skink regiments still. Saurus cold one riders are basicly the same unfrotunately there is no way for you to make them core like the previouse book. Overall it is a very balance release with some new beasties nerfed in the places it needed to be and buffed up in others.

That's an interesting choice giving them High Magic.

Also, slann can still cast freely out of combat, assuming there is a skink priest on the table to cast from,

How does that make them special? IIrc all wizards can freely cast despite being in combat.

Wizards can't cast magic missiles if they are locked in combat. The Slaan still can through a Skink Priest.

I suggest you don't believe anything posted by thedarkavenger unless confirmed by other regular posters here at Dakka. He has shown he is incapable of basic English comprehension.

So, what is the more general picture of Lizardmen? Do they still ultimately function the same? Still have cold-blooded? Skinks are still skirmishers? What about Salamanders and Razordons? Do the Slann still otherwise have access to every school of magic?

All and all they are still a very powerfull army with less emphasis on magic but that option is still there.
