They would have to update quite a few codices for such a change.... some of which have only been out for a year or 2.

There would be no point, they may as well scrap armour value altogether. Dreads can be made better by making them cheaper and/or more dakka, they don't need a toughness value.

I cannot begin to comprehend the balance issues of changing all dreads to MC's, but I do think there are some merits to it.
The biggest gripe I have is why does my mortis dread allow armour saves in CC, but a riptide doesn't. Why does he get smash attacks and i don't?
Either dreads should get some kind of buff, or some other minor (or alternate) MC class should be introduced to cover things like riptides which should not be punching through terminator armour, but are stronger than standard infantry.

I always found that the greatest deterrent for me to field my Space Wolf dreadnought as anything but Bjorn was that they had only two attacks - simply too easy to swamp and wear down in melee.
For me, +1 attack is sufficient. Maybe Smash. Obviously War Walkers and the IG Walkers wouldn't get Smash.
Converting the Walkers to monstrous creatures would mean a Dreadnought would become T6 and Sv3+ (this is the standard Monstrous Creature value for everything that's not got access to super tough materials, i.e. Eldar or Necrons, they might get an invulnerable on top of it). That means they get marginally better since they can't be penetrated by melta bombs and S7+, but in melee it makes no difference since they get wounded 3 times as often by Krak Grenades but get to save 2 out of 3 of those.
Ironically they would be wounded by Lasguns, though

Basically we don't know.
If you take them in groups, they should be doing at least something though. It does depend on your loadout, and sometimes you do get to sacrifice one.

It would also be much less fun to play against without having facings. Dreadnoughts pointed in the wrong direction could fire behind themselves at all times, making assaults suicidal against one. They either need to see armor bumps or points reductions.

Because you have pure ranged weaponry. It's the same as a Decimator Engine which doesn't keep it's fists.

A Carnifex is essentially a 4 hull point AV10 Walker for 160 points that replaces the vehicle penetration table and worrying about armourbane with worrying about Poison, Fleshbane and Instant Death. MCs are not inherently better than Walkers, its just that GW has given the Dreadknight, Riptide & Wraithlord amazing statlines for their points costs, while most Walkers are priced for 5th edition when vehicles were nuclear bunkers with cannons.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

Before the final blow was struck, I tore open a portal in space and flung him into the Warp, where my evil is law! Now the fool seeks to return to real-space, and undo the evil that is Chaos!" |

I don't know, it's kind of strange for Terminators to survive being stepped on by titans but be flattened by Riptides.
