Hey everybody,
My local shop is starting an escalation league and i have no clue where to start I will post the rules then I will post kind of what I'm going for.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tier 1 500 points

Each player must play the same army throughout the league, growing from 500 points to 2,000 points. The list is locked in for the duration of the tier, but a player may change the unit options when going form tier to tier.
(For example: A space marine player chooses two 5-man tactical squads in Razorbacks for tier1. Tier 2, he must keep two tactical squads, but may increase their size (say to 10-man squads), give them rhinos instead of razorbacks and change their weapons as permitted by the codex)
Minimum 1 troop choice
0-1 HQ (No named characters. Armise that require certain special characters to run can be used without the character during this tier)
No ordnance weapons
No vehicles with sum of armor (front+side+back) of 33 or higher
Everything can hold or contest objective.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Those are the rules now for what I'm shooting for.
In later tiers ill be using wave serpents and wraith guards with d-sythes, should be fun.
But for now i'm thinking

For tier 1
I'm not sure about the HQ choice right now but i know i will need the spirit seer later for the wraith guards to be troops choices.
I;m thinking of throwing rangers because i love the models and eldar need some shooting range.
Guardian defender with scatter lasers. Other than that I'm stuck

10 Rangers 120 pts
20 Guardian Defenders w/2 scatter lasers 210 points

Many suggestions and help please.

In the Casualty section of a Blood Bowl dugout

I've not had much success with Rangers with the new book as they are, in my opinion, the only unit that has gotten worse. I ran a unit of 5 one time, that just sat on a home objective. I think they might have killed a marine and glanced a Razorback, but other than that they did nothing. If you like the models though, go for it.

The AV restriction is a massive pain up the backside for Eldar though, since in means no Wave Serpents or Fire Prisms.

I'd personally include a Farseer, since they're just awesome and Guide will be really nasty, since you can pretty much wipe out whatever you point your guns at. Coupled with a unit of 10 DAs with a Shimmershield Exarch (one of the best footslogging units in the dex imo), you'll have an awesome core for your army. Unless you're planning Spiritseer and another HQ choice later on, of course.

That comes to about 260 points in total.

I'd then consider some Scatter Walkers. They have great range and will completely mess up any tanks that anyone will be taking with the AV restriction imposed. They'll be very useful in later games vs fliers and the fact you can change their equipment is awesome, since they're so flexible.

A unit of 2 with two SLs, is 140 points, which puts you up to 400 points.

It's up to you what you spend the next 100 points on, as there's a lot of viable stuff in the dex. It depends on what you think you'll be facing. I will say that Warp Spiders have been the standouts of this codex for me though! A unit of 5, plus a singing spear on your Farseer, would take you up to 500 iirc.

Well i have been thinking and let me know what you think of this list. I will definitely be bringing walkers in next tier but here is my idea right now.
I'm going to run a warlock with shroud in my guardian defenders ( a 5+ cover save in the open.) and run a spirit seer with my rangers to give them shroud (That's a 4+ cover save just in the open with the inclusion of scout.)

1 Spiritseer Runes of battle 70 points
1 warlock singing spear runes of battle 40 points
20 Guardian defenders w/2 scatterlasers 220 points
5 rangers 60 points
5 warpspiders 95 points

Total: 485 Points

The whole list...is average.

I would suggest:

70: Spiritseer
65: 5 Dire Avengers
65: 5 Dire Avengers
60: 5 Rangers
110: 10 Guardians w/ starcannon
60: War Walker w/ 2 shuriken cannons
70: War Walker w/ 2 starcannons

= 500

I think this list is strong.

Here is my new list and i believe it covers all aspects of what i need. Basically we can only take troops in this tier as they are the only ones who can score objectives.
70: Spiritseer
40: Warlock w/ singing spear
60: 5 rangers
210: Guardian Defenders w/2/ scatter lasers
117: 9 Dire Avengers

What will you do with your 20 guardians in later tiers?

70: Spiritseer
130: 10 Dire Avengers
130: 10 Dire Avengers
110: 10 Guardians w/ starcannon
60: 5 Rangers

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Unless you put the guardians in WSs (which you aren't, they're for wraithguard), they're very bad. Dire Avengers beat Guardians by a mile.

I'm gonna use them to hold the back objectives. I'm using the scatter lasers at the moment to get range and they to take out the rhinos that some space marines might be taking.
