Subject: Airfix tank conversion?

Has anyone done this before...I was thinking of getting an airfix tank already similar to the shape of a predator and then converting it into the said predator. I was just wandering if any one here has done a conversion like this before and how it turned out.
I am aware that I could buy a predator, however I like a challenge and airfix is considerable cheaper than GW.

Unfortunately GW's models are really oddly shaped compared to most "real" vehicles that Airfix and others make. GW's models tend to be very wide, tall and short in length.
This can make it harder to get a kit which is close enough to GW's vehicle size that it doesn't look off.

1/35 scale is nearly correct. Ive done it with a dragon models kit. although mine was for orks.

If you're talking about the good old Airfix 1:76 tanks, they would be far too small - you'd need 1:48 or 1:35.

I use cheap 1/48 tank kits made by Academy that I get off of eBay. Sponsons aren't really appropriate for those, however.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better. |

If you want to make a 40k looking Predator you will have a tough time and expend a lot of time and effort converting modern AFV kits. They are nearly all too sleek and low to look right IMO.
Better to buy a second hand Predator from ebay or FLGS and do it up.
However , if you are content with Near future, post apocalypse, Gears of War / HALO type vehicles you can come up with some pretty good stuff mixing 1:48 or 1:35 scale kits with 40k parts.
Just be aware that GW stuff is greatly overscale to allow for getting knocked around on gaming tables ( I didn't say badly sculpted !!! ) , model kit parts that are more true to life can look weedy and thin in comparison.

Tamiya make a kit which can become a Predator fairly easily.
It is a Vietnam War era Australian support vehicle made by putting the turret of a Saracen armoured car on top of an M113.
ITEM 35107
M113A1 Fire Support Vehicle
All you need is to put sponson guns on the sides or make doors with plasticard.
