So in a thread I posted earlier I talked about incorporating building interiors into a map, not like giving buildings interiors, but making your whole map an interior of some structure, otherwise known as boarding action terrain, ala Space Hulk terrain

I have been looking at a lot of "prepackaged" set ups but I have not found anything I am happy with. For example many of the rooms in these sets have entrances that are directly across from one another, once the doors are open this can make for some long firing lanes. Another prohibitive factor from going with one of these pre-fab sets is cost. I am pretty sure I can build something I want, the way I want and get it too look pretty good for minimal cost. One of the local guys I game with is a carpenter and has already offered to help me cut everything up.

So I took some time today and sat down with some scissors and graph paper and made some rough cut outs of what I am going to build. As it stands now here is the list of what I will be making;

Rooms;

3 - 6x6

5 - 8x10

3 - 9x12

2 - 11x14

1 - 22x14 hangar

Hallways

4 - corners

5 - 4 inch hallways

1 - 4-way intersection

3 - 3-way intersections

3 - 7 inch hallways

As my diagram below shows I am having hallways and doors with 2inch openings, I think I may change this to 3 inches. My plans is for the corridors and room walls to have "ribs" that will stick out a little to provide cover. The 3 inch idea on the corridors is playable area, so the corridors may be closer to 4 or 5 inches in overall width. In addition I wanted this map to have more of a "room" feel rather than a corridor feel, I feel like more rooms will lead to more balanced grounds for fire fights. I do have plans for some of the rooms to have a static feel to them...ie dedicated control room, medical, weapons cache, ect. I would also like to have this so that I could eventually play on a board that was "half and half", so I plan on making entrance rooms as well.

Anyway here are some images of an initial mock up layout. Pink lines are walls, and blue lines are doors. I think I may want to plan on more rooms, perhaps the 9x12 and also I am not totally sure on the entrance layouts of each room. I am planning on building removable doors for each room, so I may end up just adding entrances directly across from each other and then seal them with a door so there is no exit.

So take a look and please let me know if I am heading the right direction or if I need to start over again!

I will be updating as I go along...no .cad files though, it is going to be good'ol paper and pencil plans with maybe Hirst arts stuff for details. Once I settle on the dimensions I will be happy to share those.

I am very keen to see how things turns out. I was reading someone adaptation of Spacehulk for Infinity and this would be ideal. If i want to get my arts and crafts on I might steal the idea
