Not taking allies so you already know this can't be super competitive. But considering I'm taking *only* stuff from the GK codex, how good is the following?

Coteaz

Fast:
GK-Interceptors, 2 psycannons, psybolt ammo

Troops
PAGK, 10, 2 psycannon, psybolt ammo, rhino
11 Henchmen - 3 PC Servitors, 2 Jokaeros, 5 Warrior Acolytes (bolters), Chimera
12 Henchmen - 6 Psykers, 6 Warrior Acolytes (4 with Storm Bolter, 2 plain), Chimera
12 Henchmen - 6 Psykers, 6 Warrior Acolytes (4 with Storm Bolter, 2 plain), Chimera

Heavy:
DreadKnight HI + PT
Psybolt Rifle Dread
Psybolt Rifle Dread

Aegis Defense line (no guns).

A lot of long range fire (at least for GK it is). Interceptors and DK shunt up a flank to cause trouble, PAGK advance up the middle to help, the henchment sit back and shoot. Thoughts?

I think grey knights can be pretty competitive if played right. I would add more armour saturation and take advantage of the cheap flexible henchmen bands more. I'd try not to mix power armour and vehicles - try to maximise one or the other to make your army tougher to take down.

Also you have very limited anti - flyer capacity at the moment, I'd take a storm raven (or even two as I have here!)

This is more or less what I'd do:

Coteaz (joins first warband to twin link plasma and multi meltas with divination - also tries to get ignores cover, 4++ or re-rolling armour saves)

Troops
Henchmen warband with 3 acolytes with plasma guns, 2 Servitors with multi meltas and four acolytes with bolters - Mounted in Chimera 137
Henchmen warband with 3 acolytes with plasma guns, 1 psyker and two acolytes with bolters - Mounted in Chimera 117
Henchmen warband with 3 acolytes with plasma guns, 1 psyker and two acolytes with bolters - Mounted in Chimera 117
Henchmen warband with 3 acolytes with plasma guns, 1 psyker and two acolytes with bolters - Mounted in Chimera 117
Henchmen warband with 3 acolytes with meltaguns, 1 psyker and two acolytes with bolters - Mounted in Chimera 117
Henchmen warband with 3 acolytes with meltaguns, 1 psyker and two acolytes with bolters - Mounted in Chimera 117

Fast Atttack:

Stormraven 205
Stormraven 205

Heavy:
DreadKnight HI + PT
Psybolt Rifle Dread
Psybolt Rifle Dread

The henchmen warbands have psykers in to add bonus anti-horde if there are no tougher targets for the unit to take down, and they have two guardsmen to take the first couple of hits when the vehicle explodes and hopefully allow you one more round of shooting with your special weapons.

Personally I ally some guard in to my list - they're all painted the same (as a slightly sinister inquisitorial police force) so it doesn't detract from the theme of the army - plus those bonus griffons and vendettas really make an impact!

Fully Painted Armies: 2200pts Orks 1000pts Space Marines 1200pts Tau 2500pts Blood Angels 3500pts Imperial Guard/Renegades and 1700pts Daemons 450pts Imperial Knights

Wow Doom Mouse, that's really interesting. How have henchmen squads of only 6 guys worked out for you?

Interesting list - never considered taking all henchmen and no GK troops. I'd be tempted to merge the warbands together though - doesn't that give you a more powerful psychic barrage?

The six man henchmen units work really well for me, they put out a scary amount of firepower against any target you point them at! The reason I keep them small is to field more chimeras - every extra multi laser, heavy bolter is a bonus, plus having more armoured vehicles puts a far higher strain on the enemy's anti tank weapons (if they don't have too many they're in trouble as they become target priority number one!)

Oh, one thing I forgot is to add searchlights to the chimeras, forgot grey knights don't get them for free like guard do... A six point investment to shoot whatever I want on turn one is too good to pass up

I've experimented with larger units of psykers, but have found them a little bit hit and miss, particularly with 'deny the witch' and perils killing the whole squad outright. Swapping out a unit or two for special weapon squads couldn't hurt - I guess it's whatever balance you prefer. That's the main reason I like the henchmen bands, they're so flexible!

Oh noes! I forgot all this time GK chimeras didn't get them for free! Whoops!

Thanks for your advice!

I don't understand why you wouldn't just play IG at that point... Take GK as allies with Coteaz. a henchmen band, your solitary Dreadknight, and one Stormraven. IG is going to do leaf blower better (min special weep squads in chimeras) and you get all their other armor. What possible advantage do you get from using the GK codex as your primary detachment?

I see the inquisitorial henchman bands as pseudo IG allies. You have to take their HQ to use them, and they're basically IG, but worse. This means you can field GK, Pseudo IG, AND another ally, which if properly used, can really solve shortcomings in the codex.

I personally love the fluff of the psykers but don't touch them in game play. Although I haven't tried breaking them up into singles like that.... hmmmm

I'd argue that using grey knights as primary is a bonus as it gives you access to tons of cheap special weapon chimeras and I believe they would probably beat the standard veteran spam due to volume.

I think 4 of my special weapon plasma chimeras would overcome 3 chimeras of plasma veterans in a straight fight while costing 42pts cheaper. Coteaz lets you have six of those more efficient chimeras.

My henchmen list at 1750 would be:

Coteaz

Troops
Henchmen warband with 3 acolytes with plasma guns, 2 Servitors with multi meltas and four acolytes with bolters - Mounted in Chimera with searchlight 138
Henchmen warband with 3 acolytes with plasma guns, 1 psyker and two acolytes with bolters - Mounted in Chimera with Searchlight 118
Henchmen warband with 3 acolytes with plasma guns, 1 psyker and two acolytes with bolters - Mounted in Chimera with Searchlight 118
Henchmen warband with 3 acolytes with plasma guns, 1 psyker and two acolytes with bolters - Mounted in Chimera with Searchlight 118
Henchmen warband with 3 acolytes with melta guns, 1 psyker and two acolytes with bolters - Mounted in Chimera with Searchlight 118
Henchmen warband with 3 acolytes with melta guns, 1 psyker and two acolytes with bolters - Mounted in Chimera with Searchlight 118

Fast Atttack:

Stormraven 205

Heavy:
Psybolt Rifle Dread

Allied Guard:

CCS in chimera with 3 plasmas 150
Veteran Squad in Chimera with 3 Grenade Launchers and Autocannon 150
Vendetta with HB Sponsons 140
2 Griffons in a Squadron 150

To be honest I would love an army that had the troops of the henchmen but the vendettas and griffons that guard have access to. Griffons have to be my favorite unit in the whole game at the moment

IG can take 6 man sqauds with 3 special weapons? That's kind of the point of his list...

While I like the list Doom Mouse posted, I am concerned about a few things:

The individual psykers...why? Yes, I see 5 str 3 large blast templates but...on average these will not accomplish much. LD 8 means 1/3 leadership fails or perils of the warp, so right there you lose your psyker investment pretty quickly. Personally, I'd rather run one or two large units of psykers, for a nice fat blast template and a little better risk vs. reward situation. At least if it goes off or the dice are kind to you, you have a real weapon instead of 5 piddly ones.

If you take stormravens, remember they have some nifty abilities, like dropping off a dreadnaught and squad in front of your opponent. You might want to build your list differently for this.

If you are worried about fliers, also consider an aegis defense line. This would be fantastic to sit all of your long-ranged henchman squads behind. And as long as you are at it, why not take another squad of PC and Jokaero goodness and a second inquisitor to re-roll them?

Otherwise, I like the Chimaera transport idea. I just hope the volume of fire can overcome the fact that you will be inevitably giving some pretty easy KPs and First Bloods to your enemy.

He needs the single psykers when playing hoards like Tyranids. I actually think this is a very creative solution.
