For the life of me I can't remember if any of the kits (IG/SM etc) has a plain chainsword on sprue. I'm looking to model some as chainswords attached to a a belt without a hand gripping the handle. Or am I out of luck here fellow Dakka-ites?

I had a similar idea and the same problems. What i did was cut away the sword and the handle. Then i drilled a hole in bpoth parts and conected them with a wire. Finally i used greenstuff to resculpt the missing part around the wire.

It is not too hard to do if you have the tools at hand. The sculpting is also fairly easy, Just mush a bit of GS around the wire and then press a few lines around it so that i looks like the rest of the handle.

Hmmm...thanks for the replies. I'm going to hunt through the old Assault boxes, and if no luck there maybe I will have to try my hand at GS and paper clip sculpting. I can't imagine chainswords having a tabbard or some kinda attaching loop, but do you think it would be garish to simply stick them on the armor, as if they were magnitized?

Could get a chainsword from an ork boy mob, if you dont mind a hefty blade lol

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.

Yeah, I wish they made sprues with a squad's worth of weapons on them. My 20 Assault Marines need chainswords, since back in the day they could just carry two pistols instead.

It's probably too expensive if you can't make use of any of the other stuff, but the DKoK command upgrade set has a plain chainsword: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Imperial_Guard/Death-Korps-of-Krieg/DEATH_KORPS_OF_KRIEG_INFANTRY_AND_ACCESSORIES/DEATH_KORPS_OF_KRIEG_COMMAND_UPGRADE_SET.html

If anyone in your area is making a DKoK army ask them if they have any, it's a part that's unlikely to be used on any models.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
