Heya Dakka, im tinkering around with a very boiled down dog pile list. wanted to get a general opinion on what people thought of this for fun semi competitive play.

x3 Herald of khorne, Juggernaut, ethereal blade.
x1 20m Khorne Hound pack
x2 18m Khorne Hound pack

x3 10m plagebeareres.

1496

Pretty simple formula, each herald joins a dog pack the 3 PB groups stay in reserve and walk on or DS in and gtg in area terrain and or on objectives.
Hound packs and heralds start on the line and scout move full 12" basically ready for assault turn 1 or possible turn 2 if opponent turtles up. dogs have the collar for 4+ deny the witch, heralds have the init7 str6 ap2 attacks, they can split off and join into 1 mini death-star or stay in ea group as needed for the extra punch.

any useful feedback is greatly appreciated !

It's a fun list (and will steamroll a lot of Armies), but it's not even close to balanced. What if they have Soul Grinders? A heavy flier presence? Staggered layers of stubborn or disposable bubble wrap (Kroot in a pulse bomb)? High mobility and good shooting (Wave Serpeants)?

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high

Needs the Grimorie to give those dogs better invulns. If it fails, tuck them in cover until next round.

one dread will tarpit those hounds. I have found that hounds need grinders as backup to deal with units the dogs can't hurt (mainly dreads etc. walkers).

Simple formula and army, yes. However you're probably gonna be bored with it after a few games. Your only tactic is to bum rush the dogs into enemy and hope they don't kill your troops.

Of course, this is your army and you are free to play it however you want. but I'd prefer an army with a bit more variation for more 're-play value'

Ty for the replies, and i appreciate the feedback, i am by no means saying the list is anything its not, just gonna respond to the comments and hope for more feedback based on those responses!

@anonymou5 i agree its definitely not balanced! that being said, im not super worried about AV other than 14, since dogs are str 5 on the charge and heralds are 6, i can assault up to av 13 and kill it pretty reliably. and av 14 usually has something that wants to get out and fight inside so i can focus on other units till they decide to make an apperiance lol. again not perfect but still pretty effective for a lopsided list.

@Guy91 getting the grims the way id want them requires too many points, and grims without re-rolls is meh imo, this would change the "feel" of the list and make me want to hide or stall if i didn't get what i needed. i want this to be a zerging list! i have 118 wounds in just the dogs and heralds, i can soak a lot of fire and still have a ton of bodies to do whats needed, also remember that scout and 12" move, they really have to soak on average 1 round of fire and over-watch before im all in on assault.

@masquerade81 this is true... tarpitting by large stuff is a good tactic to break up the momentum of a force like this. But from what ive played so far and seen in bat reps, its pretty effective to wait till im close then break out the heralds from the dog groups and make a joint assault on big stuff before it can get to the dogs. 3 heralds is 12 init7 str6 ap2 attacks on a solid WS (at work atm i think its 5 or 6) this is dangerous to anything... walkers, tides you name it. So if i can play smart and use my good mobility to get in position i should be able to for see the obvious tarpit threats and try to deal with them early. Again, not perfect but a reasonably good chance to handle that type of threat for an unbalanced list.

@Dakkon Thanks for the good advice! i agree that replay-ability is a good goal in an army and should always be factored in when thinking about a build. i should have mentioned earlier that this would actually be my 4th army i have a fully painted, Super points efficient Cron air / wraith-wing army, A very competitive optimized Space wolf D pod army, and a tyranid army that still needs some work but im waiting to see if they get a dex this year before i put in more work! lol. so as far as boredom goes im pretty safe since i have some really fun competitive builds to play when im feeling inclined to that type of game.

Again, i'd be making this list as something i just love the look/feel of, BUT i play in a pretty competitive gaming group and so even our "fun" lists can be tough lol and so i want it to be decent! i dont say any of this to shoot down, or disregard what is so far, all good advice. Only to respond to the people that took time to reply (which is genuinely appreciated) and hopefully get some more feedback or have someone catch an angle i hadn't thought of.

also this cracked me up!

I mentioned Grinders because you can't actually hurt them. AV13 on the front, you hit walkers on their front armor. 3 Grinders can basically neuter your entire Army. 2 or even just 1 will severely hamper you. There are also a smattering of AV 13 loyalist walkers out there, but Grinders are the most common.
